Russian Orloffs

Not necessarily. I ordered from Ideal and had a LOT of dead chicks, so they sent me replacements and all but the packing peanuts of those died. I had 16 dead chicks...

I think Donna had somewhat better luck.

Shoot. I didn't realize they had such a bad track record getting birds up here. I was just going by what others had previously said about the quality of the birds.

I've ordered assorted layers and EEs from Ideal for two years and have nothing but good experiences with them. There's a lot of factors involved with shipping success. And to be honest...I wouldn't chance ordering them based on where you live. That's a long journey.

The birds I did get are fine, but it is a long ways even tho they should get here in 2-3 days, it doesn't happen.

I had 2 Russian Orloffs in my order from Ideal from 6/23. They are great birds. I don't know anything about quality, but they are BY FAR my favorites out of my order of BRs, Welsummers, EEs, Cali Whites, and Sex links. I want to get some more. They are so friendly. They love to be petted. Just great, great birds. This is my 2nd order from Ideal, and I've had zero problems. I got 3 SSH peanuts, and one turned out to be a hen. Extra bonus!

Well- I can't really tell ya if Ideal got the sex and breed right of all of my chicks- as only 2 of 8 (2 different orders) lived past 1 week

However- Welp does carry them, and I haven't seen any feedback on this particular breed yet, so maybe......

Not that anything is wrong with Ideal- it might just be too hot for this kind of chick to recover easily from shipping. Theyre' a long way from AK.

I am sorry to bother you again. The hatchery swears up and down that they sent me Russian Orloffs. I can't seem to figure out which of the 7 chicks is a Russian Orloff. Does anyone have a close up picture 1-2 week old pullet's walnut comb? All my combs on my chicks look to be single. I've tried to find a young chick walnut comb pic that was clear enough on the internet and can't seem to find a good one to compare mine with.

Thank you.

Look for pictures of Silkies or even a Malay that age.. (Silkies and Malays also have a Walnut Comb)

I can't post any pics- but my 2 1/2 week olds and my 3 month old birds really just have a big flat spot still. The boys- the flat spot is getting a little bigger & more pink, but that's it.

I just took some pics on my iphone but the resolution is not nearly good enough to make identifications.

DH has my camera with him now but I'll try to snap a couple shots later tonight. I have several chicks, some are about 1.5 weeks, few about 2-3 weeks and then a couple about a month old. Will try to get shots of all.

Do you have it narrowed down at all? You mentioned 7 chicks, can you eliminate some based on other qualities and then take shots of ones you think could be orloff's and upload here? I know you've posted a few pics before but I'm not sure which ones are suspect still.
