Eli is looking nice. Should we call it Elise? Short in the legs though IMO. I finally got a couple pics of that one pullet I really like and now the camera is missing! My birds won't be laying for a bit but I am glad to have them after so much trouble this fall. I don't suppose any one [vtgunia?] will be at the North East Poultry Congress in January? I plan to be there but not bringing birds. Still too young of birds other than the Marans and coop in is too early for where I'll be headed from. I will just be spectating and socializing this year.

ashandvine, I did notice the legs on Eli where rather shorter than on my spangled. Elise does make more sense but I'll always call her Eli (Elly). I'm down to 4 of my last order of spangled pullets. They seem to be coming along fine so far. Not being exactly prepared for the winter I have lost about about six chicks & one of my first pullets. Will definitely make a better coop next spring-summer.
Where's the North East Poultry Congress going to be at? I'm not thinking I will be attending but things may change. Here's afew pics of one of my younger spangled.

Just went to check on the girls & realized Eli had layed her First egg

earlier today. I had her in a separate pen with a few younger pullets I hatch a few months ago so I know it was her egg.

This is in comparison to one of my leghorn eggs of a fairly good size

How old is your "1st egg" pullet? I found my notes on the hatch date of my juveniles. They were hatched April 2nd so they are 8 months old, almost 9 and still no eggs! One occasionally squats when pet on but as of today (I watched them while building another coop) the girls don't allow the cockerels to mount. Not that they don't try though, at one point all 3 went after one girl.

Cknldy, my pulet was hatched on July 14th. She's been squatting for about a week every time my hand came near her changing feed & water. My spangled orloff started laying at around 20-22 weeks old.
