Russian Orloffs

Why did they get taken out of the APA?

I don't keep birds that arn't recognized because i like to breed and show my birds (to see how well i am doing with the breeding) BUT after seeing these guys on the the "Threatened list" I imidetly thought i needed to get some, and we are in the proses of buying a farm with 18+ acres!!! So i NEED a free ranging flock! (our neighbors have a free ranging flock right now so we cant free range at this "farm" now)

In my opinion of the things I've read, I don't think there's a truly legitimate/good enough reason for them to become "unrecognized" by the APA.

But I don't think the printed reasons I've found are factual.

Does anyone know if there's an APA article of some sort that explains this?

It wouldn't make things much easier. Black was the only variety recognized. The steps to recognize other varieties would be almost identical to rerecognizing the breed. I think the best you could hope for is having blacks reinstated without a qualifying meet at the time other varieties were accepted. Tom

My girls are excellent layers except when they're molting...then they stop for several weeks. Mine lay very well during the winter, too, with no supplemental lighting.

I figured they were good layers for the winter seeing that they are from Russia, lol. How manny eggs a week do you think you get from one bird?

That's pretty good, what are the temperaments of the roosters? lol sorry for all the questions. And how do the hatchery orloffs compare to non hatchery?
