Sad Day.

I am so sorry about Bandit. I never would have thought that a turkey would pose a danger to other fowl.

I think it is just a case of her being so much bigger. Kind of like a Clydesdale and a Shetland pony sparring. Thank you, he was a good roo.

R.I.P.

Well, I know he isn't a Peacock, but I still liked him an awful lot. I think he challenged my Turkey for her food and she killed him. Hubby was feeding this afternoon and Bandit was fine he threw down some scratch and fed the turkey, then walked away for a couple minutes, he heard a squabble and by the time he got back bandit was on the ground convulsing and turning purple. Less than a year old. Turtee killed a female yellow golden pheasant years ago by pecking the back of her head and I'm thinking she did the same and cracked his skull, she is a big girl. Sorry for the wrong species post, but I know you guys a lot better than I know most folks in the chicken section.

Oh DylansMom, so sorry. He was a very handsome boy! No shame in grieving for a family member...

It's especially hard to have beloved pets injure or kill each other...

can't blame them for acting true to their natures, and some differences just aren't reconcilable. You did your best to keep them safe, he just behaved like a hard-headed rooster, and she behaved like a turkey who didn't want to lose her food... and you just can't foresee and forestall every possible conflict. He probably enjoyed his freedom very much.

It is funny how we will get attached to some animals much more than others. To this day I can only barely accept the idea of getting another dog and it has been ten years since I lost my last one. I think it is their total dependency upon us that makes losing them feel like we let them down and it is our fault.
