Safety of buried eggs?

There is no reason you can't collect eggs daily.:old

Signed Mom Kiki

Uh oh... Mom Kiki mode... does this mean I’m in trouble? :lau

You are absolutely right though and I need to be better about it. Especially given how close the coop is to the house and back door(s).

Took this from the second story bathroom window.

And took this one from the deck off the kitchen.

No acceptable excuse missy.

"When in doubt, throw it out!"

I would never crack an egg anywhere near my house to see if it smelled. I've had a rotten egg explode before and you can't hardly* get rid of that stink! Shudder! It sticks to everything... it's like having a cadaver explode.... having said that, according to the USDA, a commercial egg has 100 days to get from the hen to your plate. So that's like a little over 3 months. But I'm assuming it has been refrigerated every step of the way. My phone doesn't want to cut and paste links any more, but I Googled "how long is an egg fresh?" Maybe somebody else can post the link. Sorry I can't keep up w tecknowludgy any more, lol (that was a joke, kids!)

(*yes, purists, I know "can't hardly" is incorrect grammar. Sometimes ya just gotta bend the rules a little!)

Yeah I know :lau

And before that it was even closer, mere steps off the deck (it was where the garden is now. I’ll get a picture. But basically right in front of the deck) and I still didn’t always collect daily... but of course that one you had to go inside the run to collect the eggs because the coop was inside the run but still. Not that difficult to walk inside the run haha this one is slightly further away but still really close and easier to get to since you can collect eggs from outside the run. Though you do have to be careful of escapees LOL

Anyway, have a super super fresh egg! :D pretty sure she kicked some shavings out to lay this one though? Looks like way less in it haha

And after I found that one I also took out a ton of shavings haha you can’t really tell here but trust me, it is way less lol and I may not even need to clean the coop now :lau (cause there’s now so many fresh, barely used shavings in there haha kidding of course)

And there’s the littles being overly curious and attempting to escape :lau

The white one succeeded once before this but I caught her.

Oh and also I found yet ANOTHER buried egg once I took the shavings out. Chucked that one in the woods too. Don’t know if it was rotten or not cause it landed on some soft weeds/mulch and didn’t break to smell it and I wasn’t about to climb through the weeds to get it and break it open haha
