Safety of buried eggs?

No idea, cracked ones are fed back to the girls, chances are a poopy toe cracked it lol!
This will cause pearl clutching "won't be the first time" but I just crack them on the ground.
Hidden coop eggs get the float test, unless it is super floaty same happens.
Bad eggs, really truly bad eggs tend to seep, nobody eats those.
Salmonellla is egg roulette I guess? Not like you can see it.:idunno
I was wondering all this too and would also like to know if it can still be bad even if it doesn’t smell? Like if there could still be bacteria or something starting to form in it but not enough to make it smell yet?

You can say it lol tbh I’ve thought it myself and know I am lol trust me :lau that’s honestly exactly why I don’t most of the time. I just don’t feel like it. :lau  well plus I don’t usually have time in the morning and they also usually lay in the afternoon so I like to wait for them to finish laying before I collect them so I can get them all at once but then I’m tired or don’t feel like it later lol same reason I hardly ever do night checks anymore either. but I guess it might be good for me to get outside more often :lau and maybe I could even check multiple times daily and collect the eggs as they are laid ha

I used to love visiting the chickens and be kind of obsessive about checking eggs, checking on them, night checks, say goodnight to them by name every night, etc. and lately, for the past little while, I have been being really lazy and barely even check them anymore. they always have food and water but I have huge containers that last a while so sometimes I can go a couple days without checking them  I really need to be better about it. With the littles I have been better but even then, now that they’re older and since they’ve been outside, I do the same. And I mean usually I do at least go over and say hi daily but that’s the extent usually. I don’t know. I used to love them. Still do. Love talking to them and visiting them but have been slacking on everything else. although that seems to be a trend with everything lately, not just the chickens ha should probably work on it.
Make time.
Make it a new habit.
You can do it.
Don't be lazy.

Cant like that sweetheart. There are lulls in chicken keeping you jus have to power through it.

Thank you! You are absolutely right. Definitely need to work on that. The bigger food and water containers were almost a mistake because now that I don’t have to go out there as much, it excuses laziness. But I’m going to keep them because otherwise they get everything super dirty and gross in like two seconds but I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to actually check them and hang out for more than two seconds haha and maybe actually physically handle every one every day too. And/or let them free range more often and sit with them. It just annoys me because I used to be a really good chicken keeper and check them all the time and they always had the best everything and I was almost too obsessive about cleaning the coop and I took a lot of pride in taking care of them and now I’m a horrible chicken owner :hit

Very good points!! I just chucked mine in the woods far away from the coop

Thanks. I think I definitely will. Especially since it only takes like two seconds to check for eggs or visit them haha

I think it’s also partially this dang phone haha maybe this can be part of my new lead/new plan :lau

:smackSnap out of it.
You are not horrible.

Throw your phone out the window while driving down the freeway.

@KDOGG331 not to get too personal here. But have you seen your doctor lately? Loss of energy, fatigue, loss of motivation, loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, etc., may not just be laziness but could indicate a health issue. Low thyroid, low blood sugar, fibromyalgia, depression.... the list goes on. Take care of yourself, Hon. :hugs

I know but I just feel like it compared to how involved I used to be haha

Throw your phone out the window while driving down the freeway.

:lau I can’t do that! Although I think I might get a lot more accomplished if I did.

Thanks. Idk. I suppose I should actually change it instead of doing the whole self pity thing haha

Nah it’s okay, not too personal at all haha anyway, I haven’t been lately but I usually always get bloodwork and everything when I go including the last physical and it’s always come back normal I think and it’s been a while so idk. I should probably get it checked out though cause I get migraines a lot too. And a few other things ha but honestly I most of it might just be diet and my phone. And lack of exercise ha cause I’m on my phone like all the time and often just plant for a while and put off doing what I was going to do. I feel like that’s part of it sitting around on that so I do need to work on using the phone less. Sounds stupid but I think I’m like addicted to it or something ha but that said I do think the environment at home isn’t exactly conducive to being productive either because no one else really is and plus it’s also quite stressful sometimes so I think that does not help anything ha and when I’m away from it, I’m usually way better, so I do think there’s some sort of something going on from that or something. Idk. I’ve had depression before and also have anxiety and OCD so it’s definitely possible I could have it again and I kind of think I might but at the same time, I also just spend too much time glued to my phone which I think is a lot or all of my problem and I also hate making excuses too especially when I could just get off my butt and actually do something ha and even if it is/was depression, I still would need to force myself to do something anyway, especially since I really don’t want to go on medicine or anything, so either way, I gotta force myself to do something other than sit around so I may as well just do it haha although that said I have been thinking of finding a therapist or something to see too but that’s another one I keep putting off. I’ve been meaning to find one for months, years even haha
