Salmonella outbreak 2018

Kiki, that's just a list of recalls, unfortunately, not hospital reports which are going to be much more diverse.
Like, getting salmonella from your pet turtle isn't going to show up from an FDA recall list. But if there's a huge influx in pet turtle keeping leading to an equally large influx in salmonella cases, that's going to be reported through hospitals and not FDA food recalls.
But yes, I would hazard that eggs are still generally safe.
Yea I understand this too but like my above post states...it's not JUST chicken related things that spread salmonella and yet it seems that is the only thing the reporters like to blame.

Yeah, I think we can't comment much more on it until we see the original articles and reports that the OP is referencing to draw our own conclusions.
Like, if the hospitals get 12000 extra salmonella cases and 80% of those cases are from backyard chicken owners or people who are in close contact to back yard chicken owners, that's more relevant than 'there's 12000 extra salmonella cases and it's from chickens because we're speculating'.

Personally, I have been pondering the salmonella vaccines for a while now and may start vaccinating my flock. Unlike Mareks, the vaccine has been shown to reduce the amount shed in the environment so it might help.

Until then, everyone remember why we buy soap, because the bar seems to be dry way too often.:)

When I read an excerpt of that report, it said there was a connection between hatcheries and salmonella, then made the leap to backyard chicken keepers who cuddle their birds. I am of the opinion that the CDC has solutions (regulations) in mind and seeks problems so they can push for their solutions. A good recent example is the 'opiod epidemic'--the fact that I have 5 mg of oxycontin on hand for migraines doesn't mean I have a problem abusing the drug, but I'm counted in the total.

Any person with a lick of sense knows to wash their hands, cook food thoroughly, not track chicken poop through the house, etc.

Lobbyists from special interests throw money at law makers and other Government agencies to release false documents and spread lies. It takes money to make money. They have millions of $ invested in the companies and we only have a bag of feed to pay for here and there. The egg industry is hurting because so many Americans have an egg factory in their backyard.
Also eggs sold a Walmart and other big chains are sold BELOW COST, to get you shopping in their stores for higher value items.
Lobbyists don't care about the truth. They care about their paychecks.
This video is from the industry that has it in their interests to spread lies to SCARE citizens not to raise their own eggs and continue to be dependent on big business to feed you.
That. Was. Sad! Poor birds!
