San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Does anyone in or around North County have hatching eggs for sale? I have some broody hens and I am considering giving them what they want. Either that or I have to break up the party. :)

Are you looking for certain breeds or? I am collecting more eggs than we can eat right now, but they would be mainly mixes since I have a variety of breeds in my flock.

What a great meetup at Lake Elsinore! It was really nice meeting so many new folks and beautiful birds, hope you will all come to the next San Diego meetup (June I believe?). Thank you Rick and family for being such great hosts and Quail enablers. And Julie for the Quail processing/sexing demo - and making it look sooo easy!
Warmly, Jules

Not really. Just looking to make my chickens happy, and let's be honest: myself. There is nothing on this earth cuter than a mama hen with babies.

Hi, I have lots of fertile eggs. They are from separate pens of Old English Game Bantam, porcelain d'Uccle, mille fleur d'Uccle, 3 colors of Sebrights, also call and Runner ducks.

Oooooo one of my broodies is a tiny little thing, bantam eggs would be fabulous. And a reason to start a separate bantam run. ;) Currently all my hens live together, and while no one gets hurt, the littlest is definitely lowest on the totem pole. I have a feeling she'd love a little group of small buddies.

How far are you from Carlsbad? And what are you asking for your eggs?

Also, if anyone wants me to raise some babies for you let me know! Two of my broodies have a proven record as great moms. I'd gladly enjoy the little peepers and then hand them off when they are old enough not to need heat. I've done this for a friend before and everyone was happy.

Hiya!

I'm in Clairemont area. My girls will be 5 weeks old this Sunday, and seem to be feathered out--one still has some fluff on her head. I'd like put them out in the coop/run, but was told they have to be totally feathered out.

They sleep on top of the Brinsea heater now rather than under it, even with the window open. Is this a sign they're ready to go out into the coop?

Or do I need to wait until there is no fluff at all? Temps have been so nice lately, but is 56 degrees at night too cold for them to be outside?

Sorry I didn't check this thread out in time to make the meet-up. Glad to know there is a group of San Diego folks!

I put mine out at about 3 weeks but give them a 100W light bulb at night. By this time the garage is smelling. They have done fine. On cool nights at 5 weeks they will probably stay close to the heat. Just observe them and adjust.
