I ordered 6 mixed orpingtons from a seller on BYC - out of my current flock, I enjoy the two orpingtons so that swayed my decision. Thank you to all that offered eggs - having them mailed to the house was easier than me driving all over the county. Of course, if I had noticed the signs earlier I could have organized eggs at the meet-up. The eggs were very cheap - I can't believe how much some of the high quality eggs are......

I found one of my hens plucking the feathers off of my poor naked necked Australorp!! It was the SLW that I rescued from the feed store. Bad feed gave her rickets. Her cage mates were sent to UCDavis to be necropsied...I spared her life and this is what I get in return!

Well, I hope she's the only one up to it. I've separated her out. Hope she didn't teach anyone else any bad habits.

Glad you caught the culprit! Separate her for a time and give her some vities and good food and no access to other chickens and see if that helps break her of it, I have heard that can help. You can even use an old rabbit cage and put it inside the coop so she isn't "really" separated...

The 6 fertile eggs arrived yesterday. Moved hen last night into a rabbit hutch in the same enclosed pen. She settled down and this morning is still on the eggs!
