San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

1) Anyone know when we are thinking of meeting up again or is there a different thread for that?

2) Also, I was wondering if anyone had a barred rock or jersey giant they'd like to sell that's under a year old or at least off chick pellets? I got rid of one extra chicken today so I get to add one. I'd like to keep it under $20 if possible

3) I have a 12 month old Californian doe if anyone's interested. $30.

I love seeing pictures of different coops and getting ideas... I needed a new separate coop for my Campines, so thanks to this list I was able to find an old Little Tikes playhouse that I'm going to convert. The price was certainly right - free - and I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow.

Gail - do you think maybe I could trade one of the Blue Am boys for your extra Campine pullet?

Another get together would be fun, but it is just too hot to have inland. If we do one now, I think it needs to be near the beach somewhere!

My Barred Rocks are all old ladies now (2+ and 3+ years), but they are still some of the best layers I have. Love them!

Hi,

I hardly ever post but would like to know where Deb got her chain link kennel panels. I remember her saying they were real reasonable.

Also I have extra day old guinea keets. Was determined not to hatch this year but the mom got taken from the nest a couple of nights ago so I brought in her eggs. I have 15 hatched so far and I think I can talk a neighbor into taking 6. If anyone wants some let me know.

Hi Lois. I got most of mine at Home Depot. The feed store in Campo used to sell twelve footer sections and I have a bunch of those... But apparently the manufacturer stopped making them.

Home Depots are the cheapest and best value these days:
Yardguard brand
plain panel is six feet by six feet and 75.00
Gate panel is six feet by six feet and 129.00

Here is the twelve foot panel but the last time I tried to order one through Home Depot they couldnt find them. but this url has the product number The twelve foot panels are are about three quarters what two plain six foot panels are pricewise.

Thanks Deb.
I saw a perfect set up on Craigslist but it was sold. I've never been able to find them at Home Depot. Maybe the fence section? Did you hatch baby guineas this year?

I hatched three out of four of the very first eggs laid. Got two Royal purples and one Pearl.

Check the fence section at Home Depot they are where all the fence wire is stored. They will be up on a shelf with the chainlink gates.

My Silver Campine would love to join your flock. I have to get down to 25 chickens by Friday at my house in La Mesa.

Code enforcement came by and they said my limit is 25 chickens including day old chicks. I hatch about 36 chicks each week so staying under the limit will be tough. I don't think they should count chicks as chickens until they don't have to be kept under heat but they don't seem to see the distinction.

How many Blue Ameraucana roosters did you end up getting? I do have new Blue Ameraucana chicks if you want to try again.
