I havn't taken any picture of Clarey because I figured he was sticking around my place for a while (decided to try to rehome the chicken abusing geese... Although rehoming them has proven to be quite a task...)

You might want to try a ball style foot bandage for your chicken. Basically, you roll a wad of bandage in a ball and place it on the center of the bottom of the chickens foot. Then wrap the foot around the toes, etc. to hold the ball bandage in place. You can put ointment on the foot and then apply that bandage... It's a form of bandage I saw on a site for wrapping parrot feet, but modified to allow the chicken to stand normally.

Sounds like my guy has a chronic lesion. I'm glad I made an appt. I think if I continue to try to treat this myself I'm going to lose him. Thanks for your help. Thank you too Deb. If this was earlier in the game I'd give it a try. I waited too long so now it's going to cost me.

and to the San Diego group. WFF certainly has chicks in several of those varieties. I have cream legbar pullets.

The first thing to do is make sure you have a REALLY secure coop.

I need to get some pullets to Nancy and if she was going, and someone from down here was too that could take them, that would be AWESOME and would solve a big problem.

Years ago my first chickens were Easter eggers or Americanas from the feed store. They were sweet. I have Welsummers right now and they are very friendly and even though I don't handle my chickens at all they don't get panicky if I have to catch one and look her over. Even the Roos, I have four, are the same way I had one that had a string wrapped around his foot. And after the initial complaining He settled in while I unwrapped his leash..... Just a shake of the feathers and he was off to go find his girls.

Silkeys are good too probably the most docile of chickens I have ever had. Goofy too to watch. I only have a couple of roos.

Another thing to consider with regard to chicken choice is where you are located. If you have some land where they can free range a bit or where there might be predators about a barnyard mix would be great too. Something that can fly in a pinch to get away from a dog or coyote. After predation at my place I went to a local guy and bought about six barnyard mixed hens and a couple of roos to replace my little flock. All were excellent fliers they had some game bird in them. Most were large bantams too. When a couple of hens went broody my flock went from six to about thirty in no time and that seemed to be about the amount that could keep the flock replenished.
