Thats an interesting thought on the rain. We have some FAT bun buns in the yard.....but at dusk and dawn, not during the day. I lost one of my old english game bantams last week to either a hawk or an owl. She was so pretty and made the funniest little coo noises!!! She has started roosting up on top of the corral wall in between where the roof began. It's like 12 feet high so I knew she would be safe from coyotes and just left her out at night. I don't know if it happened at night or during the day, they are free range on maybe a third acre during the day. She wasn't laying, so looking at the silver lining I'm not missing eggs and can now justify one more (wait 2, she was a bantam) new chicken in the spring
. I hadn't lost to a predator since June.
