San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Yes we can store the feed in the warehouse so I won't have to get it in the rain.

I live way north and we are having some unusual weather. It is extremely windy, nothing new but it rained a lot last night and more is predicted.

It is raining and windy here in LA.

I am sure everyone is sick and tired of me pimping feed but I want to buy some BOSS and not all of my chickens will eat it so I do not want to buy too much. My feed store sells it in 50lb bags. Anyone want 25lbs? $12.00 or so unless they went up in a week. I will ask them to weigh it and sew it up, it will be as fair as possible.

I will bring it to the meetup whenever it will be.

I forgot to mention that I have 4 bantams from Tigerlillllly and an egg from Allison's hen in lockdown. The LF egg pipped yesterday and today it has it's beak out but taking a break. The bantam was quick, pipped and zipped within a few hours. I walked into the family room and I hear this distress call, it broke free.

Still wet, need to wait til it dries out to see it for sure but I think it is black. No lavenders yet.

Drats, if I was going to be at the meet up I'd split the bag of BOSS I just ordered from Modesto with you.

Nancy, the chick I thought to be lav has feathered out light blueish with silvery wingtips, it definitely started lavender but now I'm not sure what it is. Strange. Some of the blacks are turning blue as they feather out, so even if yours come out black, they may be blue. I hope you get a lav chick too, I'm really curious what you will see once it feathers out. Maybe it's still lav, and I am just a little color-blind. Miriam (Phage) saw it and thought it may be blue carrying the lavender, but blues usually start out black or dk blue, this one was light purplish, nearly white.

I am hoping that the BO is the mother too. So I am

also. I will let you know what it looks like when it feathers out. When they are first hatched, it is very hard to tell. They are ALL cute.

Speaking of which, one of the ladies has started to lay again. They took a vacation when they got here. I think they laid 3 eggs among them and then nothing. I think the RIR was molting. She lost lots of feathers. I really think the BO laid the egg yesterday because her comb is really red. Just a guess of course.

Tammy, As it dries off more, it looks black to me but could change and I can see like white/silver tips on some of the feathers. Hmmmmm........... It hatched and looks rather large as in roo.

Gosh, I hope I am wrong. Another Bantam is pipping right now. They are a day early, suppose to be tomorrow but I guess my temps were a little high and they decided today is good. I will let you know what color they turn out to be. I am excited, I did not think I was going to have bantams again but never say never.

Odd because the Lavender AM that I hatched earlier were either Lavender or Splits which are black. I could tell the second they hatched and nothing has changed.

I will keep you updated.

So I have watched the weather for sunday @ Lake Murray go from rain 40%, then partly cloudy with no rain, to now few showers 30%. I'm guessing if we even have rain it won't be much.
Does anyone have canopies we could set up? We have a permit so we can set up open tents if we want. I'm all for going with it if you guys are. I will even see if i can buy one and borrow one if you all are still up for it. A few of these and we could all stay dry.

I have an EZ up we could use, it's not very big though. Just enough for one person really (and their stuff)...

I guess if we had enough of them...

I don't mind going this Sunday as long as it isn't pouring!
