Speaking of mealworms, where can I get more that's close to town? The killdeer love them a lot. I don't know if I will get into trouble feeding them, though. The ducks and coots like them, too.

Darlene, doesn't anyone at Lake Murray oversee the animals welfare? If Tom looks sick then why doesn't someone call fish and game so they can catch him up and treat him?

What I think happens there is that someone thinks "hey, geese/ducks would be nice to have here, lets get some and drop them off" and then they never think that they need vet care or good nutrition.

At Chollas Lake, staff does help take care of the animals there.

I wish I could take Tom home merely because of his blindness, but he's already well adapted to the lake and knows where everything is and has his own "routine".

I'm not even going to try to watch the hatchery squeamish video. This is really embarrassing, but I'm squeamish about the mealworms AND I already have had nightmares about them! They were much bigger & slimier in my nightmare. Guess I'm just a chicken - bawk bawk!

We had a bit of a worm-fest today... those little things are like chicken catnip! It can get ugly with 15 of them diving in for scattered worms.

Count me among those too squeamish to watch that video. I can't watch the horse slaughterhouse tapes, either. Ugh.

WMR aka Cari, thank you for the post. This week the Brinsea incubator sale is for $199 but does not include free shipping. I think that I will wait another week because $170 inc shipping is very appealing. Also your pictures from you last hatch are just wonderful and should be a top contester in the contest. I love them and would enjoy having some of my hatch. But as I remember you have a difficult time waiting for anything and I also suffer for the same.

Haha , that is the hardest part!!! The three days in lockdown are MUCH harder to wait than the 4 months for eggs! I was never nervous until the last day before hatching, then I was a wreck! I think I probably sat in front of the incubator for a full 24 hours... lol!

Here is my entry for the Feb hatch a long. This Silver Laced Wyandotte and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks were my very first hatch ever and were in the Brinsea Octagon Eco 20 on 2-22-2011. The picture was taken with a Samsung SL605 @ 12 megapixels. With the incubator still running and the top intact. The only editing done was to add a black border. This is my entry in the Backyard Chickens Brinsea February Hatch-a-long Contest. We had 18 out of 19 hatch... yay!!!
