San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

So sorry for your loss Dana.
Chickens are special creatures and can share our hands, heads, and hearts.
It's not silly to cry over a chicken, it's silly not to.

Dana, I'm so sorry...They do go so fast, and with very few warning signs sometimes.

You have my deepest sympathies. And don't be embarrassed about tears. I still well up with tears when I think of the BO pullet I lost 6 months ago.

Maybe this little story might cheer you up. I had to hold my giggles in....I stayed silent and just listened....

I was at a softball game last night, and I overheard some of my teammates talking about chickens. My one teammate went on to say how she gets these itty bitty eggs from her mom that were so cute! Another one of my teammates said the small eggs must have come from very young chickens..... LOL.

I was trying hard to keep a straight face.. I guess bantams could be perceived as "very young chickens" LOL

I never said a word.

Cara- how are you feeling? Are you over that pneumonia?

Thanks, everyone... my hubby took me to dinner, and poured a few glasses of wine in me. I'm feeling a bit better. It was sad to have to revise my nightly "coop count" from 15 down to 14. Sigh. Tomorrow will be a better day!

I know we were discussing tall boots before - I got my tall rubber muckers from State Line Tack. I wear those things every day, and they are awesome. They do have cheaper alternatives, but I believe these will last me just about forever.

Dana, I am so sorry to hear about Georgia.

Sometimes there is no reason at all. It is so sad because she is so young.

Time heals.

I was going to suggest a Garden Center for those Garden Boots but the ones Dana linked to look way better.

I think I may have to look into it and buy myself a pair. I always wear my flip flops but the chickens have been pecking my toes. And lately, I have been getting poop all over my feet.

Sorry about the graphics.

It is Crazy Huhn's fault. I may have to buy some gloves too. The chickens were pecking so hard and I guess my skin may dry and they drew blood today. They were the chickens from hell. I may have to wait for my hand to heal so no more mealworms for now ladies.

Nancy

Crazy Huhn, They love your mealworms so much and get so excited and try to grab at it that they tore the poor mealworms apart.

You can imagine 20 plus crazy females after food. I try to give it to them individually so they all get it but it is like a WILD feeding frenzy. I had a foam cup yesterday so I had to use my hands and thats why I got beat up.

Hey everyone. I was down at Chollas Lake yesterday and the lady there told me that people actually dump live chickens and turkeys over there. I told them about the BYC group and that I would give her the website address in case she needed to find homes for them or any other information. She says she tells people to go to Dave's feed store in cases where people want to drop off their pets.

I can't believe that someone would dump a chicken in the middle of an area with predators and everything.

I also saw three muscovy ducks there, too. They look young and healthy. I've been hearing reports of some muscovies from all over the area. I hope they go to Lake Murray and keep Tom company, except one of the three is a big healthy male that would kick Tom's behind, for sure.
