Looks like scabs to me. I'm no expert though.

Thanks for the good thoughts!

Hi - I have one left. But I am not confindent that these hatchery cuckoo marans will lay dark eggs - the one that started laying ( this was last year) lais an ivory egg! I just want to put that disclaimer out there!

Let me know if you want her and I'll hold her for you.

Jenn, I can give you a few for her to sit on.

Hey Tiger,
just wanted to give you an update. Abby laid only one more egg since I gave her the surrogate eggs. I just candled one again tonight and can see the veins so they are definately cooking! She is sitting on them pretty well except the past couple of days because she got so overheated. Although, I'm sure with the heat wave mother nature is doing all the work.

Thank you again!

Oh that's great to hear! Just be sure to keep her food and water close so she doesn't leave them too long, especially if they are in the sun the heat can wipe them out. My duck's eggs are always super fertile and survive some pretty extreme weather though, I bet it will go well for Abby.If she doesn't get her body wet every so often you may need to mist the eggs once in a while if the weather stays really hot and dry.
Post some pics when they hatch!!!

Thank you for the advice. I have moved her food and water closer because I spoil her rotten ;p I have also been making sure she got a few minutes in the pond on the hot days to make sure she doesn't get overheated. I haven't noticed if she goes right back to the eggs or dries out first so I'll mist the eggs just in case. I will absolutely post pictures when they hatch and hopfully you can identify what kind of ducks they turn out to be. We are excited to find out what we get.

She has lots of friends!! The only white egg layers I have are one brown leghorn who is laying and a couple young ( 13-14 week) blue andalusains.

let me know if you'd like to come by soon.

I would love to take the Marans and her Blue Andy pals if that is okay with you... the Andies will fit right in agewise with my Ameraucana "teens".

Are you around this weekend? I could take a field trip!
