Sapphire Gem - Progression

Hi all,

I know it is still way early to determine the gender on these Sapphire Gems, but I wanted to document their growth. The first 3 pics are of Hennifer (darker), and the last 3 pics are of Huckleberry (lighter). They are 2 weeks old in these pictures.

These are both of my girls! Two very different looking birds but the same breed. This was a little bit before they started laying. Their combs are much bigger and floppier now.

I haven’t posted updates in a long time, but here they are at 18 weeks! Huckleberry is the top one, and Mosaic is the bottom one. Huckleberry is quite vocal when she sees me. She thinks I have treats lol

Females! Sapphire gems are Sexlinks, and yours don’t have the telltale male barring. Lucky you!

I read through the 55 page post about the Gems and thought the barring doesn’t show until later? I am keeping my fingers crossed though lol

Nope, they’re sexable at any time. Yours are most definitely not barred, so there’s really no way they could be boys.

I’ve read this breed is known to grow combs faster than other breeds. I’m starting to see that.

I missed last week, but here they are at 6 weeks. Hennifer is now named Mosiac (first 2 pictures) and Huckleberry (last 2 pictures).

They are very beautiful. I loved my Sapphire Gems & they were excellent layers, pretty much every day all winter. All 4 of mine looked different despite being the same breed. I liked that though, it was easier to tell them apart
