Hello all. I am glad that I found this thread about the Saxony ducks. My husband and I have been thinking about getting a couple/few ducks. I have been trying to do some research on ducks since neither of us have ever owned or taken care of ducks before. After looking at various breeds I have decided that when we do get some that I wanted to get Saxonys. Reading about their temperament, not supposed to be flighty, good layers etc... and I just fell in LOVE with their coloring. I think they are just beautiful. We are still in the planning and researching on how to take care of them phase so I don't know that we'll get them this year or not. And I want to have a proper duck coop and area prepared for them before we do. So who knows. I was the same way before I got my chickens as well lol. I look forward to posting pics of the ducks when we do finally get some, whenever that will be.

All mine seem to have the same colored bill so I didn’t know there was a difference. What am I missing?

I didn't know that you could tell the gender by the bill but then again I'm REALLY inexperienced with ducks. But from what I've read and seen of this breed the males have darker colored heads so unless the ducks head is a little dirty, I'd guess male. Either way I've got a 50/50 shot at being correct right?

well its a theory we're working on not conclusive yet
yup! we'll see when I know for sure and that will help us guess better next time
