scalped duckling :(

It looks like we may finally have some new feathers creeping in. Her eyelids still haven't moved down any though.
She has spent a few evenings running around with the big ducks now. The first couple ended in her getting "stuck" under the deck I'm building, and me having to rescue her. The third evening, however, all the other ducks came back into the pen at dusk, and when I went to find her, she ran from me and hopped in the creek! She then proceeded to swim over a quarter of a mile, and refused to get out no matter what I did. After nearly an hour and a half I guess I finally wore her out and she attempted to hide in some tall grass. I slid into the creek slowly (for the umpteenth time) and snatched her up, lol. Sooo... she might not be going out to play for a while

I really do think the skin will stretch out some over time. Maybe not fully, but some. Looks like she's just about ready to rejoin her flock. Not much longer now.

Lol :)
Well, they have all been getting along well out in the yard, so I tried putting her out in the pen last weekend, sectioned off with just her momma. She ended up covered in more mud than I could've imagined. :hmm

I'm not sure if Ruby was messing with her and making her get so dirty or if she just doesn't know how to stay clean(er), lol. So she's back inside again for now.

Her head still has a bit of scab on it, and her eyelids are still pulled, but I'm pretty sure there are feathers creeping in from the back, so that's good.

When you put them together, did you watch them for awhile? Usually if there's going to be aggression, it's within the first 5 - 10 minutes. She's looking really good. In time, the skin may stretch enough to make the eyes look more normal. Even if it doesn't, she's learned to cope with it, so she should be fine.
