Hi!

I have seen a lot of contradicting info on scaly leg mites! I was wondering what the proper dosage for ivermectin is for scaly leg mites? Is it better to do topically or orally?!

Thank you!

I used ivermectin for scaly mites. If it is in the small pipettes I just used half on the skin on the back of neck. I also used vaseline all over the lower part of leg and I think that had a quicker effect.

I have been successful with vasoline w/mild cases. we treated bedding and housing areas as well.

Our vet just gave me ivermectin for scaly leg mites. I have to give .3ml orally every 2 weeks to each one of my chickens and then rub a few little drops on each infected leg twice weekly as well. What I don’t know is how long we have to wait until it’s safe to eat their eggs or what to do with the ones we can’t eat.

If I was you I would just apply Vaseline to their legs. Just wipe it all over the lower leg all over the scales. Apply every other day for 7-10 days. You don't need to worry about withdrawal time. In UK if you give hens ivermectin for leg mites you should not eat the eggs ever. But that is because it isn't licensed for use on mites on hens. I don't know what the withdrawal is in US. Vaseline is a good alternative. Or caster oil.

That should work! Sadly, according to one vet, the recommended egg withdrawal is 8 weeks.
