Scary Bator

It is scary! Lonecowboy even said it looked scary when I e-mailed her a pic of it. I'm not as scared of it now that it didn't blow me up when I plugged it in.

OK, I guess I cranked the knob to many times, b/c now it reading at 107 degrees. I have my thermo/hygrometer thing laying on the metal grid. I guess I need to elevate it so it will be at egg level?

The original thermometer with this one comes down from the top along side the wafers at egg level...the accurite I have laying along the side of the bottom wire mesh....

Its easy to crank the knob too much so just a gentle back or forth usually does the trick....

OK, Just checked the temp again.....it's at 100.4, but it's laying on the wire mesh and not elevated. The broucher says I should try to regulate to 102 degrees or 103 degrees.......what do you think?

I put a little block of wood in mine, to lay the thermometer on. It is just about perfect height so it measures the temp at the top of the egg. I keep my temps at about 101 to 103....no fan, no turner. I bet you and your new bator will become best friends!!

I'd try keeping it around the 101 range....my instructions say 101 to 103 but thats for my Lyons...and the lady that sold me this one kept this one at 99.8....sooooooo

I bought mine from said he has had 50 plus in there before. I have had 25 or more....but really didnt want to go with too many more chicks at a time. I didnt have a big enough brooder. Mostly I just put in between 10 and 15 at a time.

OK.....I will have to look for a piece of wood or something tomorrow to elevate the themo to egg level.

Right now the thermometer is reading 100.8 degrees. I'm going to turn the knob just a little bit.

So besides getting another themometer to compare the temp, elevating one of the themometers to egg level.........what else do I need to have this thing ready to try my hand at hatching?

I have bought some water snakes (water willy thingy)......do I need to use one?

I guess I need to get something to candle them.

Besides eggs, what else do I need to get started?

100.8 at thermometer on the floor isn't too bad really. Add a dish of water to it and pop in the eggs! Avoid touching it and then candle at 10 days to be sure to see something. You don't have to use wiggler, it's just another tool.

For candeling. A maglite and a piece of tinfoil with a dime sized hole will work great for candeling
