Screaming Chicken

So you actually watch them all day, for their safety? How about getting a Heeler or other dog that protects livestock?
My old job, I was able to let them out for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, which meant they'd stay inside the coop. I have a dog, but she's useless and hates the cold... I left her outside today and within 10 minutes she was barking to come in... She's a lab/staff, so she has short hair and bald-ish underneath... If it was a nice warm day she'll stay out, but we were nearly burgled, so she's stays inside to protect the house. I thought about a rooster, but it's illegal as i live in a built up area.

Your hen is suffering from
Bratitis.
It is not contagious. But usually if you can stop it with one ...one of the others will begin with symptoms.
There is no cure but some folks will have a infectious reaction leading to a sore throat (from yelling) sore or broken toes (from kicking the fence)
There is one old fashioned remedy that Always works...
Chicken Noodle Soup!
Best wishes

Burglaries? Foxes? No roosters allowed???
Maybe you'd better move to the country! Plenty of jobs most everywhere these days, especially in conservative areas.

I would love to move, but i live with my parents still. I worked in a school and left at christmas, i took the chickens at summer last year as they were nearly dying... (deputy head wasn't best pleased, but she didn't take responsibility of them)
I would love to live country, but its all about money, which i don't have enough of. 31 and still living at home, i'm unable to move as the house prices are expensive.

Can't really see all of it...but seems small for 5 birds.
I have 6 birds, the only time they stay in there is when myself or my family have to work. Thats 5 star luxury compared to what they lived in before. It was very small.
