Put feeders at least 20 ft. apart at first. The hummers are territorial for awhile; then you can hang as many as you have room for. There will be more hummers the more feeders you have up. Gloria Jean

I used to put up two, on two different sides of the house, but never got more than three total to show up at any one time. I put out only one this year-I figured I have enough feeders to deal with with the chickens, LOL.

ETA: Riley isn't doing well. If you recall, we gave her a heavy round of penicillin a few weeks ago when her abdomen seemed bloaty. I've noticed over the last few days that she seems slow and weak. She'll trip and lose her balance quite a bit, especially if she's stepping over something. Her abdomen is enlarged more now. I fear we'll be losing her before she turns three years old in July. Doesn't seem right.

Poor sweet Riley. She is so beautiful and too young to have these issues. I am so sorry Cyn. I will pray for her.

You know why Riley is special. She is one of my sweet daughters out of Charlotte, along with Gypsy and Panda, plus she's my only blue barred chicken. I don't want her to linger for a long time if she's going. She's one of my girls who wants to be carried in every night and waits on that outside roost bar for Tom or me.

I do know why Riley is so special but she is also a darling girl...a beautiful. I so hope the eggs in the bator of Gypsy and Snow hatch. It is almost like waiting to see what the cochins'adverse turn into ... a surprise. Hehehehe

Kathy, those two sure are the pair of a Cuties. What a hoot.

You know, I'm thinking about some more downsizing in the bigger birds. I realize that I have Dru and Gideon, but as you know, Riley isn't doing well and there are so many who are over 4-5 years old now, plus Sunny, who is going on 7, so I will be losing a few from now into the middle of next year, I'm sure. When my big blue teddy bear passes on to that Great Roost in the Sky, I am considering selling Hope, the huge Buff Orp hen. She is monstrous in size and a very good layer, but she is very skittish in spite of handling, and since I want to keep smaller birds, generally, I think she's a good choice to go.

Dottie has only two remaining eggs under her, Ellie's, which is a pure Delaware, and Caroline's, which I've been calling a Delabrahma. I will rehome Ellie's chick, male or female, but if Caroline's is a pullet, I'd probably rather have her than Hope.

AND, you will get some hatching eggs from my Buff Laced Brahmas when they start laying, too!
