Well, any really smart young man will come courting that beauty of yours with a chicken in hand instead of flowers and candy!!! She seems to get lovelier by the day, Cetawin.

The little blue that looks like Velvet is really a pretty thing- and Lancelot totally has my heart and my vote!

Beth that Lancelot, while not being a Suede baby, reminds me of Suede in a couple of ways...The way he watches over Ebony and the way he walks sometimes. He and Severus had a little tussle when he first went into the playpen with Ebony. Severus came walked over and looked in, started to sratch the ground, flared and bumped the wire wall of the playpen. Lancelot raised up, looked at him, dropped his head, flared and ran full force at the playpen wall hitting it and smacking into Severus. He looked at Severus like "Bring it on roo boy, I am growing up and not afraid of you". I had to chuckle because Severus backed up, turned and walked away.

Cyn, I agree with you. I think the one marked like Velvet is a girl and the other one a boy. If so, That gives me my Blue roo and a blue roo for my laying flock so Severus can go bye bye for sure. Lancelot is not as calmy friendly as Thor, but I raised Thor from day 1 so Lancelot's struggling when held and occasional screaming I just ignore and try to soothe him. We shall see but he is sure is a pretty dark boy. Although his comb is not that great with only 3 good points and the small 4th one, they also turn at the tips on two of them, So Lancelot may end up in the Layer group, we will see how the Suede boy turns out. YAY

Any idea on Hedwig Cyn? Still thinking girl?

I am keeping my fingers crossed for Hedwig being a girl- I don't see much comb there - or wait, who was her mama? Is the comb how we are going to be able to tell?

Poor Severus. He is really a pretty boy- it's too bad he couldn't step up to the plate and be the man.

I am so loving playing with the 4 baby chicks. Even Ivan the Terrible has taken to perching on me fairly consistently. Belle is sort of a drama queen, but she cuddles. Boo and Emma are the ones that just want to sit on you and nap, though. I keep looking in vain for characteristics of one hen or another in Emma- sometimes I see Lizzie's expression- but Emma flies a lot, and Cora is my flyer, and she also stretches her neck to see things the way Cora does. There is already a little tail black coming in - ???? They are all going to be the fattest chicks in the Seven Universes, though. I have to keep stuffing goodies down them to get Harriet to eat. She still gives everything over to those little chunks.

My BR, Henrietta, is going to slip away soon. Internal egg issues, like Cyn's kids. She molted a few months back, and never grew anything back, and looks like a half naked, frail little old lady- she can barely keep her head up, and refused even grapes starting yesterday. No poop. I have been able to pick her up by sliding my hands underneath her and lifting her under her feet, as if she were standing on my hands, so I place her on a soft towel, and took her into the yard for some fresh air and sun. She barely stayed awake for any of it. Her head goes down and sort of wobbles back and forth. I will miss her. She was the first of my neighbor's chickens to come up the hill and make friends with me- little independent thing, used to lay a big tan egg in the horse barn. She will be remembered always - if she hadn't come up the hill, I never would have researched chickens, found this website or all of you.

Beth I am so sorry about Henrietta but thankful she came up the hill and brought you to us.

Hedwig's mom was Cyn's EE June. Remember the pretty blue wheaten colored girl in the pen with Isaac and DeDe? That is June. So, Hedwig could have a pea comb, a single comb or a combo when she grows up. But she has no sign of anything up there yet. So I am hopeful for a she.

What I do is to save the eggs up for a few days, while the broody is sitting on wooden eggs or the likes. Then, I take all the eggs I have saved and put them under her. Then, they all hatch at the same time, or close to it. It is a good idea to take the first chicks out if she gets up off the nest to go care for them, so she will finish the hatch, I have found. If she stays on the nest and eggs, I just leave them all alone. I have even hatched eggs out of the refrigerator under a broody, as a friend wanted some Easter Eggers and I had all the eggs in the frig. I don't recommend it, but it worked. I usually store the eggs in my basement (on an egg turner) where it is cooler, until I put them under the broody or into an incubator.

Of course your right but I thought I'd be able to match up their eggs to those I have on the counter as my Del eggs are sometimes spotted. Of course the two from today weren't. So I'll take tomorrows and add to those as I've have all the Dels seperate for sometime, but specifically wanted chicks from these three specific hens as I'm certain they are not hatchery girls.
I can only identifiy one hatchery girls eggs but not the other, as she lays a "pink" egg.

I will set tomorrows and those selected from those I've set aside. Also I didn't want to confuse the hen by switching out two wooden eggs for six real. I'll have to remember to slide the precise number of wooden eggs and then switch them all. LOL

LOL Well a pet rat would work with her also. She loves them (as you can see in Cyn's Predators post) She wants more rats again and I admit they were great pets for her...pocket type pets she could carry around with her and let run around her room. I think a diaper for Hera would be my direction if she insists on having a pet roam in her room.

Thanks, Cetawin, you are a sweetie.

Pet rats, huh? Well, they are kind of cute- I have never been bothered by rats or mice like some people, as long as they stay in their place outside and not in my house or grain bin!

Chipper is tri-colored!!! That is really a neat coloration, I hope he keeps it- you know he really looks like the perfect mate for Hedwig......

You could start a new breed- a Delawegger or something.

Rancher- I hope this works out for you, and your broody gets you some Del chicks- it will be interesting to see what Nick does!!! Nick, right?

Cyn, look at Hedwig's pic closely...that rust color is popping up on her a tiny bit too. She is a girl dang it! She is a girl! She is a girl! And that is all there is to it. LOL
