Now, wait a minute ..... HOW did you do those hoops? PVC pipe, I assume ..... but how do they attach at the bottom?

I did a little construction work today. In one of my pens in the boat barn, I have a (3x8) brooder above one pen. Well, I decided to cut a hole in the wall for a pop door, so they could have access to the outside. Now, I will have to divide the run that is there (it is large). This is what it looked like before (copied from one of my BYC pages). I didn't get any pictures today. See, the bottom area already has a pop door....

I made a thread about the pvc hoop thingy a while back.

I just predrilled a hole in the pipe and then screwed it into the wood of the coop. Worked just fine

That's something I've always wanted but have never gotten done......a brooder or enclosed pen within the coop. I like yours. Perfect way to get the kids integrated!

I like the idea of the hoop houses. I have actually considered building one, too. Hmmm, I may just have to give that a try here pretty soon. They would be great for warmer climates (used as their housing). There is a guy here in Missouri that has all, "open air," housing. (He is from California originally). He has 3 sides built, and one BIG side left totally open. I just worry so much about the winter weather; I just can't do that.

I just use it for a covered run, they still have a secure coop for nighttime. I actually leave the run gate open if it is not in use so the free range birds have a covered area to hang out in. It works well to keep the rain (and hopefully very small amount of snow we get here) off the ground.

Good Twin? BAAALLLLOOONNEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Lisette is an absolute angel by comparison! She's only been outside of her yard twice since she got here. Cosette on the other hand has already made acquaintances with The Boys, several of the girls and even coached Dottie in her morning egg laying this morning! IN THE COOP!!

I can NOT keep that little hooligan where she belongs with her mother and sister, and therefore, out of TROUBLE!! She is definitely the more adventuresome one of all three.

Maggie is doing quite well. She's had a number of stern conversations with the ladies next door, and I'm pretty sure the word is being spread among the flock that she is not one to trifle with, especially as concerns her children. To say that she is protective of her young is like saying that the Sahara Desert is a little dry!
lol.png
But more importantly, she seems to intuitively know what constitutes a threat and what/who doesn't. Me, for instance

She readily accepts a nightly visit of me crawling up into the coop to join her and the babies for a little bed time cuddling session.

It's my most favorite time with them so far.

I'm concentrating mostly on Cosette right now, as she's the one I need to tame down the soonest, if she's going to keep pulling these silly stunts of playing escape artist. It's in her best interests to be amenable to being picked up without a fuss at any time, from anywhere in any yard

Lisette is no problem. Both times that she escaped with Cosette leading the way, she was eager to show what a good girl she can be by making a bee line back to her yard and the safety of Mother Maggie.

And she's just so darn cute and sweet when she does so! She has a quick kiss for her mama's cheek and then turns to scratching and pecking away as though nothing out of the ordinary had just happened.

Thanks for the pictures Kathy!

I really do have to get more pictures of them in their new home so you can see how they're doing. The weather the last few days has been miserable, and Elk season started Saturday. We're going back out again Monday morning, so that probably means a total wash for pictures that day.

*sigh* I am SOOOOO looking forward to about the 20th of November, when hunting seasons are all done, I've fulfilled my obligations in Tacoma and can settle down to concentrating on just the house and my babies! Life will be oh so sweet then!

The weather can do whatever it cares to then. We'll be ready for it!

I am wondering if this heat tape would work on the waterers. Any of you know?

media.nl

This is what it says about it ....

It is hard to beat Flex Watt's dependability, cost effectiveness and ease of use. Flex Watt is ultra thin at just .012 inches thick and it's element is sealed in a tough flexible plastic so that it can be used in many different types of heating applications.

* Flex Watt Heat Tape features the following... Permanently sealed in a tough flexible plastic so that it can be used in many different types of heating applications.
* Versatility, the tape can be cut to any length, heating a very small amount of space or long and large areas.
* Exclusive and easy step by step connection instructions are included with your Flex Watt purchase.

You must use a thermostat to control the tape's heat level. A Cord with Attached Clip and Clip Protective Insulator Set is the only required equipment for each connection.

Foil Tape: Use the foil tape (available by the foot) to adhere the heat tape to most anything. You will need 2 feet of foil tape for every foot of heat tape as it will need to be run on both edges of the tape.

Kathy I am seriously considering that tape for the bantam cages aka Nella's Brooder style.
