Kathy's on the right track there, Nella! First build yourself a retaining wall on the downhill side. Mutual Materials makes a great concrete block called Cottage Stone. Small enough for us ladies to handle, large enough to do the job when stacked properly.
Once you have your wall up to sufficient height and length, it's a simple matter of grabbing your pick-ax and shovel and pull the dirt down off of the hill to level the whole thing out.
Judging by pictures of your place, the lower end of your yard would probably be the most idyllic place to put it. The retaining wall probably wouldn't have to be more than two feet tall at most, I should think. Dang it girl! Why don't you live closer to me! That's a project I would dearly love to give you a hand with. I love building stone or block retaining walls and terraces!
Well, on a different note, sort of, I was perusing CG last night and came across a very tempting listing. Some gal up north of me is offering to take on folk's unwanted barnyard fowl for her gardens and property. She claims she is essentially a no kill shelter for unwanted birds, regardless of sex. She posted pictures of her place and it looks like absolute heaven. Chickens running everywhere, roo's and hens, pullets and cockerels. All running wild and free. CB, Brutus, Red and Goobey could be very happy there. I mean, the girls are EVERYWHERE!!! **Sigh** But, oh crap! I'd be so lost without all of my boys!
Don't anyone dare breath a word of this to Denny. He'd have the boys boxed up and gone before I could even so much as blink!
Hmmmm....
maybe the gal would be interested in letting go of a few of her girls....my boys would be very happy to take care of them.
