Did his Blacks seem good colored? Blues? Splash? Lavenders? I know everyone keeps telling me that the Lavender gene wont cange the color you see but what about the under color? What color is a blacks under color supposed to be? Blue? Lavender? Black/Lav? Blue/Lav?

I ll have to look on my old posts to see who said the "leakage" thing. But from the amount of posts they had and what they were selling I just thought I learned a new term from them is all. Sorry for the confusion and such

Now I know not to use it because its not true or has no real meaning behind it-your right the light bulb was perfect and I understood all of it from the start-just not a genetic genius is all

The black seemed to be good color, the splash looked more "washed out" but..... I have seen just splash ( not split) that have not had what I would call good splashing, the blues were blue and differant shades but it is normal to have dark and light blues. These birds were their "project" birds. No matter what it is your personal goals that you need to keep in mind. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Breed for what you want, and your goals. Make it a "project"

Very interesting thread...and exactly the info I need. But now I need some help. Tomorrow I'm getting a black/split lav Silkie rooster from Bobbi Porto. I currently do not have ANY lavender Silkies...only partridge, black, blue, splash and white. Will this rooster be useless to me since I don't have any lav ladies to cross him with?

HAHA! I love looking at it that way. Who cares about what should happen its what I want! Its my "project"!. Except Lavenders cost a ton of $$$$ which I do NOT have! URGH.

Correct me if I'm wrong bur im for sure you can do this with rabbits. If the father passes on the split gene to one of his babies then if you breed Daddy back to baby you might have a chance of getting Lavenders because the dad and baby will have the Lavender gene. Yes No?

LOL I personally don't have much experience with mixing other colors as I have been working with my lav and blacks for about a year now-just being patient and breeding up a storm culling ( selling them off). I dont plan on showing at any point -I have no interest-I just want to have the prettiest lav silkies for me to have-I love them. Maybe someday Ill mix colors just not now. I will look tomorrow and try and take good pictures at the base of the feathers so you can see-but as someone posted pictures can be decieving:-(

You can cross him with the black, Blue and Splash. Then breed the pullets from those offspring back to the father and some of them should give some lavenders.
