Personally I don't know much about splash I thought the lighter one were the results of a splash to splash breeding.

If you breed splash to splash you dilute the colors.

Here's a light splash hen.

Here she is, but she is in a slight molt, so she is losing a lot of her fluff right now.

Here's the darker splash color.

Here she is again, but also going through a molt.

So was I right when I said the lighter ones were a Splash x Splash breeding.

Ok cool! I went to a poultry show today and did good with my whites for my first time showing silkies and considering I just got them from a farm that they ran around so they can only really get better! Like crest and foot feathering.

What an informative thread, thank you! I have a Blue Split to Lavender Roo, a Blue Split to Lav hen, and a Splash that carries Lavender, and a Splash split to Lavender hen. Whew.

Very good pics and explanation, Cammy. My understanding is that splash x splash results in diluted splash, which you illustrated clearly, and it is considered a fault. And yes, splashes are blues. I also think that there are some who think their dilute splashes are lavenders, but they are entirely different.

What I'm talking about is also different. I had never noticed this difference until I saw the two birds side by side. Both had very distinct, strong splashing, but one's background was nearly white, while the other (mine) was quite blue. I feel sure both are blue, just different inetensities. I thought both werer quite pretty. I think I've just confused things, 'though.

Bren told me that the color is not a DQ, however, it is going to depend on the judge you get. It will be a preference on the judges part.


I have seen some Lavenders that have the splash spots on them, that are not yet true Lavenders, if that makes any sense.
