That's what I was thinking too. How many generations will it take to breed out the lavender or is it something that might stay recessive for many generations? Will it matter for showing if the splash has the recessive gene since there will likely be no signs?
as long as it stays ressive it well not do any thing to ur splash it when u line breed when it show up so keep adding new blood evey so often and u should do good

Those are some really pretty Silkies you have. And that is also a great camera shot of them too.
I just got me some silkes from a memeber of BYC a few days ago and she thinks one might have some blue or lavender in it. How can I tell? Its a black hen

You can not tell by looking at a silkie if it carries lavender. If it is a split (carries lavender) you could find out by doing a test breeding to a lavender. If it is split you would get half lavenders and half blacks that would be splits. Do you know what colors the hens parents were?

Hi, I am in Australia and we don't have lavenders.I am one of the few (or many) trying to make them.
Your site has the best information!! I have only bred a couple so far and still a way to go to get better type.
Can you tell me if the males get a few dark whisps like very fine splash marks. A male of mine gets a few very dark hairs
and then over a few weeks they sort of disappear and dilute into lavender colouring. Next minute a few more dark hairs
appear in different places. Is this normal?
