Self-Sufficient Homemade Recipes

NO but please let me know if you try them. I always use the soaps that are free of aditives so if these work I would love to try them.

Susan

I ended up ordering some, I will let you know in a few days when I do laundry.

So far I really like it, and I did not use fabric softener with it which I normally do and the clothes came out soft. I have not used it on a white/light load yet to see about stain power. It made my bathroom rugs fresh and a load of jeans clean so far.

I found both Borax and A&H Washing Soda tonight at my local Harris Teeter store. I've been able to find the Borax before but could not find the washing soda. Guess lots of people are asking for these items now to try to save money making their own laundry detergent so they can put food on the table!

This may have already been said.....not sure, but...
I find Nels Naptha soap works even better than Zote...but both are great, and all 3 ingredients are found at Krogers & Harps grocery stores.
Our Walmarts in Arkansas, only carries the Borax,,,"mule team".
Freds refuses to carry any of these brands, not the right 'brand'.
Hope this helps.

I've been having trouble with ants getting in my mouse food, so I hope this helps! I looked in the fridge and the first thing I found was yellow cornmeal, so we'll see! Thanks.

Yellow cornmeal was the ONLY thing that got rid of our ant problem. I put some in a butter lid on the counter top and I sprinkled it around the side of the house that they were coming in. Three days later not a single ant was in my house. Thank you whoever suggested it.

I hope this works! My female mice decided they didnt want kids and they killed my male. That drew TONS of ants, and now they found the food and wont leave!

I gave them a big pile of cornmeal, we'll see!

Hi If You are having trouble making the laundry detergent. Don't know if this has been posted before but for those of you who can't find the Arm and Hammer Washing soda Here is a number you can call. Its 1-800-524-1328 Use UPC code 33200-03020 It will tell you the closest store that carries the washing soda. You can also double the Borax if you still can't find it. Hope this helps with the homemade laundry detergent

I grew up in the south and as a kid we were always covered in bug bites and poison ivey/oak/sumac. My mom use to use the fels naptha soap to give us a bath. Just dont use it on your face because it very drying (thats why it works on poison ivy, it breaks up the oils). Always solved our problems. I still use it to this day.

One of my favorite cleaning aids is Dawn dishwashing liquid.

I keep a small bottle in my laundry room and use it to spot oil/grease stains on clothing. Often I don't see the oil spots on my husband's T-shirts until I'm taking them out of the dryer, and I have success getting them out even after the heat of the dryer has set them.

I also use it diluted Dawn as a de-greasing cleaner. I mix it in a plastic spray bottle - the kind designed for cleaning solutions - and put the Dawn up to the first line (sorry, I don't remember the ratio) and then - slowly because it will bubble up - add water to fill the bottle. It's great in the kitchen for the stove, etc. It's my secret for cleaning the outside of the fridge - where greasy fingerprints get ground into all the nooks and crannies -and for wiping off the greasy dirt that can accumulate on top of the fridge. I use it on my cupboard doors, too (we have a lot of greasy hands around here, I guess

) And it's a miracle in the bathroom. I read somewhere that you need soap to cut soap scum (I think it was something about the oils used in making them). I tried it and it works really well. I hate cleaning the shower, so often I wait until it's gotten really bad, and then I need to use a scrub brush along with the Dawn spray.
