Not to steal the thread here Prophet, but could you tell me how big of pens your use'in\\build'in for the chucks? I read the UC Davis paper says they used 5'x30" grow out pens for 25 birds up to 16 weeks. This sounds pretty tight to me. I figured at least 8'x 30" and the one I'm buildin now is 10'x30" I got one in the brooder now dragg'in his buddy around by the leg and is less than 24 hrs old!! Bill

....AND THE PARTY STARTS ....

Reason I was asking these prices is out here you can get a 6-pk of quail eggs at lots of stores and they run between .99 and $1.99

I got 110 hatching eggs for $45 including the shipping. Granted only 30+ hatched, but I have 27 of them at a week old now.

Dressed birds I haven't priced, but live they sell for $3-$4.50 each and that's usually when they buy 100 or more.

Just wondering what other areas run. I've never seen quail eggs in any store go for more than 2 bucks. Maybe 20 years ago when they were $2.50 for 6, but I had no idea they were so uncommon or so much in other places.

you might try turning the heat down just a little bill some times heat makes them aggressive I have mine in pair/trio cages the dimension given in the pair cages in that article is what I use for me so far I have kina timed the hatching so as they are reaching 12-16 weeks old it is cooling down weather wise they seem not to fight as much. my quail I have looked at what size cages GQF was selling and I just made them a little bit bigger. I t was kina early when I put mine out here but it was 50-60 at night and 80+ in the daytime I had a heat lamp hanging on the side of a grow out pen for the first coupla weeks they were out. I am getting ready to build a few of the pens you are referring to from that pub I just have to straighten a fence out and finish scrapping a few old A/C's (sigh)
