September Hatch-a-long!

Pics
I'm not sure my broody's 2 eggs are going to hatch now, I very carefully candled them both last night (day 22) and put them back under her in exactly the same positions after. 1 egg is completely black, couldn't make out an air sac at all and the other one has a huge air sac, I'm pretty sure it's about 30-40% of the egg. What do you think their chances are now?

I have actually organised to pick up 4 x day old chicks later this afternoon anyway so at least she won't die of a broken heart:hit

Well... hope is restored momentarily anyway! I've just water candled both eggs and they both wiggled. So I'm guessing that's a good sign. Good grief! What a roller coaster ride this has been!

Always is when we choose to play mama to the eggs, but with practice and the good advice the people here give we will get there one of these days where we don't stress so bad about it. I still have some kinks to work out but right now I'm just waiting for 3 to kick the last half of shell to move em over to dry off, I think the other 3 died in shell, but 14/17 is so much better than 1 or 2 outta 18-24, they will still stay in there just in case for a few extra days as hatch day isn't until tomorrow but temp was on high end of good, learned that lesson the hard way, end of day 22 figured everything was done hatching that was going to and killed a chick the was just a bit behind the others and no movement or anything thought it was dead

I'm actually not massively keen on my Australorp - she is just so black and isn't very friendly either (although she is at that teenage stage where they are all like that - I remember my 3 older girls getting much friendlier just before they started laying!). I'm wondering if I should try to sell my Orpington cockerel and her as a pair. But then they are meant to be such good layers I'm not sure if I should get rid!
I have australorp and welsummer and I like the austrolop better...started with battery hens which were Rhode Island reds and found to many nasty ones...I would try and keep the austrolop

The pips on the first 2 have cracked some more. I picked up the two ducks and the drake. The drake is quite funny looking at the moment, he's just starting to grow into his body, down and feathers mixing weirdly. The the girls are very pretty, one is completely white with a patch of lilac on the top of her head and she has light blue eyes and the other is almost completely black. The drake is a chocolate pied

Well I gotta move the silly turkeys and Nn out of the brooder to the outside grow out.... just to have room for the little fluffballs. Oh and I gotta put 4 hours in at work, and drive a spell up the road to pick up a dorking rooster. Sigh tomorrow is booked so very little time to watch the bator.

I know what you mean. Sometimes you get busy, or thing's happen in life that you wish you had a longer day that day to get it all done. I'm planning to move chicks out of my brooder on Tuesday or Wednesday, because my next hatch is due on the 28th. I was out in the coop and pen today cleaning a bit in there, since the temperature was only 95* here today. It still felt hot! :gig
