September Hatch-A-Long!

I think I'm in big trouble... I hatched out 9 ducks and 3 chickens for my first go around and haven't been able to get ahold of enough eggs for another batch (I'm going through withdrawal here and it's only been a week since hatch for the ducks and almost 2 for the chicks).

Well I went into my local feed store D&B simply for a bag of horse grain and guess what? They had chicks!!! So what do I do you might ask, well grab a box of course and start loading them up lol I ended up walking out of there with 3 Rhode Island Red pullets, 3 black australorp pullets, and 6 Cornish cross (I think there are 3 pullets and 3 cockerels). Now I have 15 chicks in my bedroom and 8 ducks in a brooder on my front deck.

400

Just locked down the 7 quail chicks. 4 of them are already rocking and they are due to hatch on Tuesday. However, I noticed that 2 of the 5 silkie eggs and a Blue Andalusian that are due to hatch this coming Friday are rocking a bit in the turners too. Is that an indicator that they might hatch earlier?

OMG..We must be from the same gene pool............My kids are all gone so I have two empty bedrooms plus a huge basement.
Lots of room to fill up.

OMG, I hope you at least slept in, LOL!
Nope. I got up and found another dead chick. I called and called and googled until I was almost blind trying to find a vet. I finally decided to buy a microscope. 4 hour round trip to pick it up. My friends car broke down on the way back. A semi and 3 cars crashed 50 feet in front of us. Tow truck broke down after picking up the car. We went to a different dealership than the tow truck. Finally made it home. And I have 2 more Faverolles and no more died. Yeah! What a crazy day. Again. I love my new (used) microscope. I have to buy slides before I can use it. 1000X

You are not alone.

Wow, missed a couple of days and catching up.
Deanna so sad about your chickies, and your day sounded exhausting. Glad you found the Corid. Hope the remainder chicks do OK. Love the frizzle.

~So many are/have hatched a bunch of new chickies, congrats to you all. Hoping the double yolkers make it too, hope you both will get photos, can't wait to see them. The SLW is beautiful!

~Looks like the chicken fever has caught up with a few folks ......again! heehee
Chirp :highfive:

I have two growing Japanese Bantams due on the 22nd for a friend, and seven silkies I set on Wednesday. Most eggs I've had in my incubator, but none are mine :( Oh well, I just enjoy hatching little chickies :)

you lock down on the 18th day unless you have reason to believe you need to sooner...are these shipped eggs?

No not shipped.  Just my own  backyard flock.  I have a bit of trouble with judging aircells.  I think they look good
I would think they would be on schedule then.....mine have been hatching a few days early lately
