September Hatch-A-Long!

it's 3am and like any other hatching addict I woke up and thought "I'll go check the bator" so I go look then thought "I'll just look at my turkey egg...due Thursday" well as usual around here it's coming early...it's in the air cell....I upped the humidity and I'm holding my breath!!!

I think I'm in big trouble... I hatched out 9 ducks and 3 chickens for my first go around and haven't been able to get ahold of enough eggs for another batch (I'm going through withdrawal here and it's only been a week since hatch for the ducks and almost 2 for the chicks).

Well I went into my local feed store D&B simply for a bag of horse grain and guess what? They had chicks!!! So what do I do you might ask, well grab a box of course and start loading them up lol I ended up walking out of there with 3 Rhode Island Red pullets, 3 black australorp pullets, and 6 Cornish cross (I think there are 3 pullets and 3 cockerels). Now I have 15 chicks in my bedroom and 8 ducks in a brooder on my front deck.

oh my goodness! well you've definitely got the fever...I'm not sure what the cure is!!

Just locked down the 7 quail chicks. 4 of them are already rocking and they are due to hatch on Tuesday. However, I noticed that 2 of the 5 silkie eggs and a Blue Andalusian that are due to hatch this coming Friday are rocking a bit in the turners too. Is that an indicator that they might hatch earlier?

it would be here....if they are shipped they may have started in the heat during transit

i cant belive these little guys were born the begining of the week and they are soo differnt already!!! they older ones are already growing feathers!!! WOW

amazing how fast they grow huh? no matter how many we hatch we always get a kick out it when they start scratching like the grown ups!! every morning my husband and I have our coffee over looking our flock family....they are so entertaining!

I do the same. I wonder if I'll candle the eggs in the fridge in the middle of the night when I turn off my incubators. After today, I have to wait until Friday for my 4 turkey eggs to hatch then it's 2 WEEKS before I have anything due to hatch. 2 WEEKS!!!

Today was death free. I had one silkie that was on deaths door because the corid gave him pasty butt. I gave him a bath and nutri drench and he's looking much better. I am thinking this is what happened to the other silkie. The one with the bloody poop, I think is from something it swallowed. It's still fine and the poop is clearing up. The Orpington is the only one that is still a mystery but I don't think that anyone has Cocci but I am finishing the corid treatment anyway. Maybe is was smoothered in a chickie pile. At the moment everyone seems to be ok. ANd I have a few new ones.

I have 2 days until lock down for my bantam Cochins and EE eggs. I purchased a broody silkie sitting on 3 eggs, and I tried candling them and couldn't see anything but an air sack, due to very thick dark shells. The contents are very, very giggly though and I'm wondering if that's normal. Unlike incubating eggs these are on their sides and I've never had a broody so I don't know if that's how they normally do it or not. I am thinking of maybe putting them in the bator and putting my cochin and EE eggs under her instead, when its time for lock down. Suggestions?
