September Hatch-A-Long!

1 Barthuhner half way unzipped, one Swedish Flower Hen just pipped! Hoping upping my humidity during the first 18 days was the magic trick I needed to let them all hatch unassisted and live

What was your humidity day 1-18?

I'm actually hatching these for a friend. She keeps them outside when they are bigger. Not sure what she is planning on doing with this batch. I've got 5 already completely hatched now and 2 still working at it. These two have spots of blood on their shells though.

45 - 50 instead of 25 - 35. OMG! This Barthuhner chick is the craziest little chick I've ever seen! As soon as she shook off her shell she started looking up at me and tracking me around the bator and chirping at me, and following me - actually running around the edge of the bator trying to keep up with me. But then she started egg bowling and attacking all the eggs pecking at them! She actually cracked one of the Appenzeller Spitzhauben that had a really thin shell!! I freaked out, afraid she'd killed it. I candled it and couldn't see a beak in the air cell but I saw a lot of weird movement. I decided to open the air cell and see if it was ok. It was just barely internally pipped already and the weird movement was the membrane inflating and dflating rapidly because the pip hole was so tiny. Luckily the crack was above the air cell line so all was well. I stuck her back in the bator to wait it out. But the crazy Barthuhner came OUT. She is taking turns snuggling with me and hubby and is only content when she is being held. Glad to finally break the 1st pip curse where the 1st to pip usually dies or has massive complications. :D

Cute story! I've only hatched once (this is my second) and last time my first pip had a prolapsed vent. Being a newbie and not knowing i could have fixed it, he died. :( I only have 2 embryos out of 12 developing now, and I have meds on hand. If anything happens I'll be ready!
