September Hatch-A-Long!

And our first loss of the day - one I didn't see coming :( A Mille Fleure Leghorn I think (forgot to pay attention) - she'd pipped only a tiny little hole a very long time ago and then nothing so I decided to check on her and discovered that after pipping she apparently spun around, closed her own air hole and suffocated :hit :he

I have 48 eggs in the incubator and its day 21!! This is my first hatch ever. day 1-18 humidity wasaround 40% because my incubator and I disagree about what it should be. I wanted it at 30-35, incubator alarm goes off under 40, to keep peace it stayed about 40 lol. I only candled the eggs once omn day 12, prefering a set and forget method. only saw two eggs I wasn't sure of, left them in cause I'm new too candling. Woke up to lots of chirping and two chicks already hatched. my fiance is so excited, we are setting up the LG now to use as a hatcher. pics to come !!!

Let us know how it goes. What did u bump the humidity up to at lockdown? I'm trying to come up with the right humidity for mine. I'm doing the egg weighing but each egg loses weight at a different rate so very difficult. I used a 5 egg avg. 3 of the are pretty close to dead on for weight loss but 2 are about 3 days behind at day 12.

I'm so sorry....sometimes these losses get me so low....yesterday found my Russian orloff dead! crossing my fingers for the rest of your hatch and you cross yours for my turkey! ugh!!! no more losses!

I have had several pip and do nothing more. Afterr 24 hours, I clear a small hole to make sure theycan breath and put them back. Sometimes they get stuck to the side of the shell so I will help a little more. Today I had 2 die just as I started to help. This has happened before. Does anyone know why?

hatching is hard!

Hi Everyone,

I set 13 eggs on the 1st. It's a bit of an experiment. It's my first incubator (early Christmas present!) so I'm just winging it! They are a mixture of my 6 Hybrid hens and my Silver Grey Dorking Roo.

I'm hatching some from each to see which are the best to hatch, which make good eating birds etc...

I'm getting nervous reading all these posts! I'll be happy if just a few of them hatch!

Good luck everyone!

Do you mean when you did the external pip or when you wet the membrane or ?

I have 8 of 12 out now, and had one more bizarre death occur. A beautiful Isbar pipped, zipped and was pretty much out and decided to take a nap in the bottom half of the shell. And then it died :( I removed it from the shell to try to figure out what happened - no idea. Everything was fully absorbed and the chick looked perfect. I believe it was a splash from the gorgeous silver tones. I guess something internally just wasn't right. One of my 2 rescues just finished her hatch and is doing great. The really bad one is still laying in the bottom of her shell in the bator napping in hopes she will absorb everything and make it. So 2 dead at hatch, 8 alive and in the brooder, 2 still working on it in the bator. WAY better than my shipped eggs that is for sure.

Wow, lots of chickies hatching, so excited! :D

So Sorry for the ones who didn't make it...it's hard because we are waiting and waiting and praying they come through and that we are able to do this, but sometimes I guess...some are just not going live.
Every now and again we get lucky and have a successful, healthy assist chick. :)
Other times, we just never really know when or which one to assist.

Looking forward to seeing even more new chickie baby pics! Good luck to everyone! ;)
Hoping Ms. Clessie starts hatching her chicks soon. She went into lockdown mode last night.
Meanwhile, eggs in the bator at day 12 tomorrow.....:p Chirp

I ended up with 4 Salmon Faverolles out of 24 shipped eggs, 1 Isbar out of 7 shipped eggs and 2 Porcelain, 2 Splash and 4 Buff Silkies out of 18 local eggs. I lost 7 during over the last few days (day after hatch, during hatch and a few from the last hatch). 13 steps ahead, 7 steps back.
