September Hatch-A-Long!

Here is baby #2 he joined us last night a few hours after the first one. Still waiting on 4 more. So far I have one boy and one girl now. They're Rhode Island Red/Barred Rock crosses. From my research they're sex link babies. Black ones being girls and striped ones being the boys. We named the boy Simon because he looks like a chipmunk and the black one is Jelly because she got jealous when Simon was getting all of the attention. They are so adorable. Im hoping the rest are girls being I now have 3 boys in my flock. We shall see. Still gotta check my broody today to see if I have some new surprises under her.

it depends on the roosters breed over the hen...could also be considered a black star...too sweet!!

Max asked for bruschetta for dinner. Who am I to deny a turkey? I enjoyed it, Max loved it! Tomato and crumbs all over her face, no worries, she whiped her face on me. She's clean now. Happily sleeping in a bruschetta coma. I hope she doesn't ask for lobster thermadore tomorrow night. I just can't say no to that cute little face. Could you?
Someone has mama wrapped around her little talon, don't she?

I had to get her out of the bator - she got her foot stuck between the turners. She is in the brooder drying off all alone chirping away - I hope her buddy hurries up and joins her. I have 3 now - the first 2 were blue and splash I believe. this one looks black so I think I have all 3 colors! Can't wait to see what the last one is :D Come on chickie!

AND - my first Breda just zipped - FAST! I have them in the turner with it off this time (1st try this way) and so far so good. The other is in the air cell but hasn't pipped externally yet.

How could I not be? She is so dang cute. I have had a few chicks I've taken care of when ill. I had one that was two weeks and acted like this. But usually they are sweet and go back to being a chicken. This one must have imprinted on me and that is what makes such a difference. I had another baby turkey all lined up but now I don't want to share.

I hope they are healthy.

membrane looks dry! you might go ahead and start helping with this one as is most likely you would have to anyway...after you open up some and check how dry it is wrap it in a warm damp paper towel and put it back....if you don't find any blood you might open the whole end and see if it can hatch it's self.

I don't know I'm at work and its killing me

I just want to go home and see what they are doing if its not making progress I will get it out and help a bit after 24 hours (which would be this evening) unless it seems in distress I will help it sooner I just hate to open the bator with so many pips!!! I don't want to hurt the others he was still trying to zip and peeping away so well see is there anything special to put on the membrane or just water? I hope the twins pip soon so I can help them I hope they make it

So the shell seems to just kind of falling off in some spots, but my humidity is 80%, so do I need to use a damp paper towel for the membrane or does it look ok?

You know....it looks pretty moist to me and I think I still see some veining. I'd give it another 30 min. to an hour, before any more aggressive assist...looks good so far.
Can you here it peep?

It you do assist later, just lightly dampen, or apply Bacitracin ointment, Neosporin if you don't have the other...just a dot...your humidity is high enough so far...just need to watch for it getting to dry and tough...
I'll need to leave for a while within the hour, I'll check back in on you...Good Luck, come on chickie, chickie!!!
