September Hatch-A-Long!

My very first eggs in the bator! They are due Sept 8th. I only put in 8 because I haven't managed to figure out how u can keep them at 45 degrees until you've collected them all. I really only wanted to see the process though right now. This is my first year raising chickens, and its so addicting! Did my 7 day candling yesterday, and 7 of 8 looked fertile. 2 of the eggs look like they're probably double yolkers. Heard they probably won't hatch, but figured Id give it a shot!

I keep my house at 70-72 degrees. I keep the eggs I am going to hatch, on my counter, in an egg carton, out of drafts or direct sunlight. I collect for 6-7 days before I start incubating. My hatches have always been 100%. Twins have hatched, but most the time you have to assist.

I candeled last night all looking great but 2 will give it a few more days being only day 6. Also picked up 8 babies yesterday. My running tally is 9 full grown chickens 8 juvenile chicks 8 babies and 15 eggs in the bator. 2 geese 2 rabbits 1 dog 4 kids and a dh that trying to figure out where my next coop is going.

Ty!!!! I'm finished for this year cause my sweety is about to beat me to death!! Lol But that info will be very useful next Spring!! We both love our birds like crazy, but he isn't as addicted as I am. This past spring I went to TSC & bought 6 baby chicks. 2 wound up be roo's, so I had to rehome 1. Now I have 5 big chicks, 3 babies in the brooder, and 7 eggs in the incubator. Plus I've acquired 4 guineas and 1 turkey. Buying a 2nd turkey this week, cause mine seems lonely. He says after that, I am DONE!! But next year, I'll get my way!!! ;)

Can anyone offer me help? I am a first timer at hatching. I was not aware that you could not continue to add eggs to the bator. I set eggs aug 17th not even knowinh if they where good lady had them in fridge unknown amount of days. Candled them 8/25 and 7 of the dozen i see movement. My problem is over last week I added eggs to the bator. The eggs that are 5 days I believe I can see black eyes. How will this effect the hatching process for the younger eggs? Any help would be great! Ps eggs are brahma and brahma/sex link mix Thanks again

Not sure how much help this will be.but I am sure others will jump in.
I have two incubators...one for incubating and the other that I move the eggs to for hatching on day 18 for lockdown.
That works for me...........Is it possible to purchase or borrow another incubator?
If not, I am hoping someone may have a method of making one that is not real spendy.
And don't be hard on yourself.. we all mess up even when we have done this for awhile.( like me )
Also, did you continue to add like one every day or several more all on one day?

Good Luck

So if I understand, you have eggs that are on day 9 and eggs that are on day 5.
If that's the case, what I would do is do a dry hatch and then raise the humidity on day 18 or 19 and don't open until the bulk of the first group have hatched. Pull those chicks and check the air cell on the later eggs. Adjust the humidity accordingly. Then do a normal hatch with the remaining eggs. Hope that makes sense.
