September Hatch-A-Long!

Update: I hatched 7 Silkies, they are such cuties.
One of the reasons I like Silkies is of course they are so fluffy. But also, that they are so friendly birds. I have now three different ages of Silkies in my brooder and they get along just great. The biggest one is playing the mommy

How long do you wait after they are born?  1 is dry but 2 were just born about 3 hrs ago.
I usually let them dry unless
1. Their naval has issues and needs attention in which case I have to take them out anyway
2. They are playing Godzilla
3. Someone else is playing Godzilla and I am going to open the bator anyway to get that one out

When ever I take any out I immediately put them in the brooder under a stuffed dog that forms a little cave in there under the heat lamp. So far they have all done well even if they were taken out before being dry. I have the temp in that end of the brooder the same as the bator so don't figure it really makes a difference.

I'm only on day 19 and I can't stand it already! I keep checking for pips through the window with my candling torch. I just need a striped sweater and a swag bag and I have my Halloween outfit sorted!

AND I can't seem to get my humidity up and all 3 thermometer are reading different!!! :he
I have been having humidity issues too. I ended up with 3 sponged, a wash cloth and a wad of paper towels in there plus the water in teh base - JUST to get to 65% But they all hatched just fine :)

End of day 20 here. Still no rocking, pipping or cheeping.

Candled them again just now and only 2 are still moving inside :-( Hope the others are ok in there.

The wait is killing me

Have you taken them out to recandle yet? At this point I would quickly take each one out and check the air cell for a shadow of an internal pip - a little pointy beak in there somewhere. Listen for chirping too. That is just my opinion though and I am fairly new to all of this. But for me I have never had one go that late - usually if they do and they are viable it means your temps were too low.

I have not, I am giving it another 24 hours and then I will start to worry. I did candle one this morning very briefly and it did move and its very dark in there but I didn't really know what I was looking at and its my first time so I am trying to be patient.
