September Hatch-A-Long!

she has to have high protein...how about game starter mixed in something she likes like pizza sauce? have you tried oatmeal? cooked oatmeal with some egg, sugar...since she has a sweet tooth...and cayenne pepper...have you read how healthy that is for turkey's? it's good for all of us but especially turkey's and I swear it helped my babies that had bronchitis last week....they were so congested but I added that and garlic to their crumbles and coated their beaks and feet with vet RX several times a day, it's been 3 days since anyone sneezed. I make up the oatmeal mixture and all leftovers in the fridge, that no one wants, to give to my grown chickles and they wolf it down!!
I'm so happy for you that you have Max...I was so looking forward to my turkey!

and you describe your feeling for each other just how I felt about my peachick Jade

Sorry about yours. Can you get another egg? Do you still have Jade?

The starter I have is high protien but it's purina. None of my chicks like Purina but I didn't buy it. A friend wanted turkeys, so she bought the food. But she changed her mind. So I now have a turkey. I don't know what I would have done with 4 if they had all hatched. I have room for one. I don't know if Max will be sad being the only turkey in with chickens. If Max is a she, I can take her for a date to visit a tom when she's grown to let her have baby's.

I am so devastated

My biggest, healthiest, most beautiful Ameraucana/White Leghorn cross that hatched perfect with no help and was cheeping and playing an hour ago laid down and died when I left to take a nap with my 2 year old. She was almost twice the size of the others and had the puffiest cheeks and beard already. No bloody poop, no sign of injury, nothing. No clue and now I am afraid for the others. The only thing I can come up with is that earlier today they discovered there were pine shavings (the largest kind) under the paper towels and were digging them up and pecking away. I put down new paper towels and blocked their access to those corners - but maybe I was too late and she had eaten some giant piece and it killed her???? I checked her mouth to see if she appeared to have choked and saw nothing. No pasty butt, no bloody poop anywhere in the brooder, no sign that I could find of a broken neck or any kind of trauma. And she was so big there is no way someone else bullied her. Maybe a heart attack?? Here is my sweet baby

She was the one with the giant curls by her cheeks. This is her when she was born.

And here is how I found her - no sign of anything

My little turkey co-pilot.

Aways crawling under my shirt or the covers to have a qick nap.

Everyone needs one of these.

Oh no! What do you think could have happened? Xx

One of my eggs pipped the shell this afternoon but not the membrane and nothing since. I don't know if I should help!?

I honestly don't know. :/ I think incubating in an LG still air had something to do with it.

I wouldn't help. It can take up to 24 hours from after they pio to zip.

Still nothing. If there's nothing by tomorrow at 3 I'm cracking them open. I just candled and none look alive.

I candled earlier and it only looked like 2 were alive, but I picked a few up tonight and found another that moved. One of the eggs rocked its self tonight so I hope I'm making progress! My broody had 2 under her that were still ok, but she kicked one out tonight and it's was long gone. We couldn't see into this whole time because it was so pourse, but tonight it was easy to tell. The other egg moved, so here's hoping everyone hatches soon. I think my temps were just too low since I was running at 101.5 most of the time because that's what I had read in 2 books. I was .5 of a degree too low and then that 110f spike early on hurt me too. It's defiantly a trail and error process and I feel your pain.
