yeah very exciting congrats on a great hatch so far!!So, I came home from work to chick number 7! I really can't believe how lucky I've been! I haven't a clue what I'm doing!
I still have 5 eggs left. I'm on day 22, how long is sensible to leave them? I never expected to get this far so I haven't given it much thought as to when I will call it quits.
I won't be lonely. I was very careful keeping Max away from all things chicken but she has other ideas. My whole house is chick infested. Max insisted on doing chicken chores with me this morning. Sometimes she decides she wants down and there is nothing I can do to stop her. I left a corner of the netting loose last night and all of my biggest girls were gathered around my back door waiting for breakfast. I filled their dishes and opened the door and Max ran past me into the middle of 8 very large very hungry giants. She bulldozed thru them. i'm trying to catch her before someone else gets her first while jugling 2 large full food dishes. One of my hens dashed into the house. Believe it or not, I got Max, put her in my top, feed the girls and my other hen came out with out pooping on the floor. I just hope Max didn't catch anything.my beloved little Jade, with no warning, passed on her 9th day!! keeping Max with you is perfect don't let her with the chickens or even on the ground outside until she's several months old!
mix plenty of her crumble in anything she'll eat! no I won't try for a turkey or another peachick until next year! it's cooling into the 50s here at night, I worry like crazy about the little ones. still have the ones that were sick in the house still watching them every minute. I am incubating some guineas, someone orders keets and a few of my sex links eggs....remember her baby drowned a few weeks ago...anyway the chicken business is bittersweet!
Max won't be lonely you two will be a team...they are very affectionate
day 20 started last nite at 10PM. 1 pip at 9PM. some time over nite 2 more pips. looks like I'll get more than 1 chick. 32 pips to go.
