September Hatch-A-Long

it's still regulating, was up to 77% and now coming back down. We are at 61% right now. I won't be adding any water after this evaporates. Since they will create their own humidity as they hatch as long as the humidity is above 40% to start we should be good. Especially since days 1-18 were 18-25% humidity. I was reading some that said humidity 70-80 bu that jsut seemed to high for me, especially doing a dry hatch.

Just updating :)

My broodys eggs are due tomorrow, can't wait!
I had to go through and candle my incubator eggs, the room I keep the bator in had that tell tale egg fart smell that accompanies a rotten one. I pulled 14 clears, but couldn't find one that looked like it was producing that awful smell. The only thing off was an egg with a huge air cell, but it still looked like a normal egg. However, after pulling out all the clear eggs, it doesn't stink in there anymore so I'm assuming I got it and don't have to worry about one exploding. I hope, anyway!

Congrats to those with chicks and hood luck to everyone whose still waiting!

Omg this batch, I had two quit and blow between candlings. Gross and smelled up the whole house.

I'm on day 11 today. Started with eight eggs and down to five. Three were not progressing so pulled them. They had stopped on days 3, 5 and 7 (I think going by pictures).

One of the five still dancing around is the one that some say looks to be twins.

This is my first time trying to hatch anything. I'll be happy if just one makes it!

Hey all,

I have three external pips and some cheeping. Just waiting. It's very tempting to get in there but I was active in the hatch last time (late hatch due to low temp) and this time I'm determined to just let the chips fall where they may with this one - we are still technically two days out from hatch day and if I can leave this one I may be able to guage were that fine line of leaving or assisting lays...

There is no better instruction than experience, right?

Welcome to the Hatch-along

Oh, dear... No good deed goes unpunished, eh? Hopefully you'll have some fuzzy little quackers from this hatch to make the memories of previous attempts vanish. Just remember, no hatch it seems is without drama! Good luck on your survivor eggs!

Lol, indeed - no good deed does go unpunished!

The funniest thing was that I had said to hubby "Goodness me, I'm never going to live this down am I?" because 5yo was going on and on and on about it....so Dad stepped in and said "Son, look at your Mom, you're making her upset", Son turns to look at me, turns back to his Dad and says "Nah, she's not upset, she's just sad.................. that she killed the ducks!"

LOL.. They all seem to wait until that first one hatches, there may be a pause but then sometimes its like popcorn... Funny, I always get the best hatches during the nighttime when the house is quiet and everyone is sleeping..

I LIKE the popcorn analogy!!! I feel like I should be eating some while waiting!!

I purposely set these eggs at night and didn't count that as a day so I wouldn't be tempted to worry and fuss at hatch time....hope my plan works!!

Oh my goodness, what a character!! I hope he gets some ducks this time. External pips = excellent news!

I do not think it is pasty butt. I think it sat in Ethel poop. Ethel is not very neat with her poop. I looked at it and it looked ok.
So cute... we love the photos!!

Does the last one, the dark one have some pasty butt going on?? I have been giving my babies probiotics on their food and have mostly been avoiding this. Though I did have to soak a baby serama today to clean up it's bum and get things moving again. I have heard apple cider vinegar in their water can help also.

I will put a little ACV in the water just incase though. thanks

Any suggestions on the penguin one?

Talk about them popping out after the first one. Went fishing for a few hours, came back home and 3 more were out.
waiting for 4 more, 2 of which are pipped

Awesome news - I"M excited for you!! Kinda goes with that old saying "Do less, achieve more"
