September Hatch-A-Long

Day 21 starts in 1hr 11 min for me. My DW must think I'm crazy hovering over the incubator trying to catch a wiggling egg or two while she watches "her movie". I'm like, "honey, I'll be right there, one more sec."

I love that. I had a great big belly laugh over the thought!!

well, I have 5 of 8 out now and day 20 just ended. possibly had slightly high temps, but they all look good. I think another is starting to zip.

one of the chicks slammed a pipped egg against the side of the 'bator. I hope its ok, they are not too careful once they get out and they sure don't listen to me.

(edit)
Make that 6 out now

My goodness, they really do crash around in there don't they? Might be WHY when one hatches they all get to it! Must be loud in that egg with all the crashing going on!!

OH BOY!

Have my first 2 pips 25 min shy of the start of day 21!

OMG! you can go and watch the movie now with a smile on your face. KEEP BUSY! You'll need something to do so your face doesn't become attached to the incubator window by spittle

Just pokin' ya! It's very very exciting and its also awesome to have someone to share it with.

Hard to tell. Looks like long chick for most of the video then at one second looks like a second eye appears, possibly how it projects on my iPad. When you candle does it look like two sets of eyes? What type of eggs are you incubating and what do you use as your "candle light". I'm curious because I have never been able to see that well into my eggs, maybe because of the darker color of my eggs etc. I'm using one of the really bright 3 D cell mag lights with a small tube electrical taped to the light to reduce the circumference.

When I first started filming I had the egg turned to the one side that had the movement. Halfway through I turn the egg because the other side started to move. I have no idea what I'm looking at and have no idea if it is just a larger chick or two in there. The video I posted from day 9 a couple of pages back in this thread is the same egg as this one just two days later. In the day 9 video it looks like two "eyes" to me but again, I have no idea what I am looking at or for. This is my first time hatching. The video for some reason is not as clear as it is in real life.
I can't watch the video from my phone but I would say it looks good for half way.

Very cool!! Looks like twins to me.. though I have never seen any before!

I haven't either. There is only one video I could find on youtube of twins but it was during hatch. My understanding is it is very unlikely they will make it to hatch. I did not purposely try to hatch a double yolk (twins) egg though.

I use the 'assistive light' on my phone - my phone is in a cover and it is perfect for resting the egg in. Assistive light is a widget on most smartphones.

I have a flashlight app downloaded to DH's cell phone. The egg is sitting in the "well" of the otter box cover for the phone. A roll of toilet paper is propping the egg up and I am recording with my cell phone.

Oh Bugger! One of mine has given up - i can see the disclouration of the egg! Aaargh! I want to help but I'm afraid!!! I'm gonna stick to my guns...its not even hatch day yet. No assistance!

Ok, no further movement/additional pips. Have to sleep because I have to work tomorrow. Wishing everyone best of luck! :thumbsup

Congrats on all the new hatches or soon to be hatches...I've been keeping up, but crazy around here, every time I start to reply the phone rings, there is a knock on the door....

As for me, had some chicken drama around here today, Broody #1 wouldn't snap out of sitting mode, she would get up with the chicks but head strait back to her nest.. this morning I went out and yup, she sitting tight on the nest, went back out at 11 and again, sitting tight on the nest.. I thought what the heck, got closer and she raised herself a bit to fluff up at me, noticed some rouge hen had laid an egg or two in her nest, she was back into sitting mode... Reached under her and took them, she right away got up and three chicks followed her.. I panicked, looking for the other chicks, meanwhile broody #1 leaves the coop with the three chicks in tow.. I hear a cheep...coming from Broody#2 nest, thought, no way, she has atleast 5 more days, lifted her and plop...two missing chicks magically appear.... they had somehow gotten in with her and she bless her heart took them... Got them and the other three chicks and put them with the momma into an enclosed part of the coop, this way no other hens can bother her and she can devote 100% to the chicks.. I'm thinking a week? Any suggestions??
Lady came a got the 31 chicks, paid in full with alittle extra for my time...wants me to reset Friday with just the EE eggs...I should have 15-18 by then (yes, I have been saving them for 6 days already) So I get to join the October hatch a long!!!
