WoDia, may I see some photos of your Serama flock? I love seeing these beautiful birds and it seems as though you have quite a few. :)
Also, since I brought my brooding hen indoors to hatch the eggs because of the frigid temperatures, I also brought her mate for company. Do you think that he will be alright with the soon-to-hatch chicks in close quarters for the duration of their being indoors? Or would it be best to transition him back outdoors? He’s a sweetheart, but he is also a rather young feller of about five months. ;)

I will definitely post some pics when they hatch! Thank you again for all of the instructions. Equipped with the info you have given me, I don’t think anything could go awry. :)
I’m happy to share my own experience with raising this special tiny breed. 😊 If you ever have questions, I hope my answers will help you with your own Serama journey. 😊

@Ch1cken Tender

Seasons and Curly have 4 chicks inside currently. He’s very good with them, but I kept him with his brother until after the hatch and the chicks began to feather. I would have left them together, but she’s a very serious broody and seemed to want to do it all alone. Now that the chicks are older, I do let them all spend lots of time together. He’s a good daddy to his chicks. He mainly sits and watches them. 🤣

If you have enough space to keep them together, I don’t see an issue, if she doesn’t mind him being there and if he’s not messing around the nest. Let him stay with her and monitor how it’s working out. 😊 Let me know how it goes.

Edited to add: Curly’s very young too. He was just 5 months when their chicks hatched on Thanksgiving day, and the youngest on December 9.

WoDia has given thorough and excellent advice as always! Helped me very much when I was dealing with my first incubator serama hatch.

I agree that I see no issue with the couple being together inside, if the space is sufficient. Just like WoDia, and just like you, my male was young when he first became a father, and he handled it like a champ! Seramas are truly one of a kind.

Good luck to you, and for the mother to be!

That’s awesome! Nancy seems to enjoy Sherlock’s company, so I’ll let them stay together while keeping an eye on them. ;)
Your Seramas are quite lovely 😊. I love Curly’s calico coloring and your hens have some exceptionally great posture!! I hope that Nancy’s chicks will develop that quality as they mature. :)

I’m glad to see that you have had good luck with pair hatches too! I’ll report back to tell if I receive that same luck. ;)
I concur! Seramas are the best breed I have found for good temperaments. :)
Good luck to you, and for the mother to be!
Thank you!!!

Thank you so much! 😊 None of Curly and Seasons chicks are feathering-out frizz, but I’m hoping for a few eventually. His son, Barley, does have his colors though. 😊 Please update us with Nancy, Sherlock, and the chicks. Can’t wait to see the happy family! ❤️

I will definitely update as soon as the chicks hatch! It will probably be some time on Sunday or Monday. I’ve been checking on them frequently, so Nancy is very tired of my enthusiasm and presence. 😂

You must be so excited! Hatch Day soon. That’s wonderful. ❤️ Let us know how Sherlock reacts to his chicks. That’ll be a cute sight for you to see. ☺️

It’s officially day 20! I have at least one egg who has pipped, and I can hear lots of chirping! That is, I heard the chirping until Nancy told the chicks to be quiet in my presence. ;)

I am on the edge of my seat hoping that these chicks hatch… I really hope to see even just one of those chicks tomorrow! At the very least that would ease my concern that I did something wrong due to my impatience during the incubation. :)
