Serious about Chanteclers...

It has a bloody attachment on the abdomen about 1 inch long perhaps 1/2 across.
I am reluctant to move it to the brooder in case the other chicks get interested and damage it?? Any advice (@aart)?
Probably best to leave it in the bator.
Abdomen will either close up or 'attachment' might dry up eventually.

I now have 18 chicks with one more possible, piping started but not much activity overnight will tell.

I have lost 3 chicks that hatched: two did not make it out of the incubator lasted perhaps 6 hours; the third made it into the brooder, dried completely and got fuzzy yellow them passed maybe 24-36 hours in.

I have the 18th still in the incubator, less than 24 hours old. It has a bloody attachment on the abdomen about 1 inch long perhaps 1/2 across. I am reluctant to move it to the brooder in case the other chicks get interested and damage it?? Any advice (@aart)?
You can try preparation H on the Abdomen. if it looks like an umbilical cord, it can be snipped. If it bleeds then you can tie it off with thread. Those usually fall off after a couple of days but you do want to keep the other chicks away from it until it is healed a bit

I assumed it would need food and water also that other chicks might present a problem. I have no preparation H will get some tomorrow.

What/how for vitamins?

Thanks to both of you!
Liquid rooster booster-- can use a dropper for very lethargic chicks and give them one drop va beek a couple of times a day.

All of them could use either rooster booster at normal concentration or save a chick. TSC sells save a chick but I do not know what is available in Canada

Not much of nothin'! I will be at a good feed store tomorrow they may have something, is there a DIY substitute?
You can use infant drops without iron. Most stores sell that

Once again, make sure to get the one without iron

I lost the chick I spoke about in my last posts above, so a total of 5 that hatched but did not make it. I ended with 16 chicks still surviving, a disappointment given the number of eggs I started with but makes for a solid start to a Chantecler flock and I can build from there.

I am left questioning myself about what I could have done to get a better result. I have decided that I will immediately incubate a number of the Ameraucana mixes that I have to see what might result.

None that I could discern but I am very much a novice in this.

Three only lasted 12-24 hours, two were very weak from the get go and seemed to have less down on their bodies than the others; they flopped around a bit at the beginning but never really stood or moved around. The third has something protruding from it's body at natch and I thought perhaps the "umbilical(?)" but after a better look after 24 hours it expanded in size so I think more probably something from inside (stomach?).

The two that made it to the brooder were both small and seemed weak, were able to move about but only for small distance and then would fall in a heap.

The more curious was the number of eggs that did nothing, only 21 of 62 hatched. Of those three batches of five hatched only 1 or 2. A couple more eggs from the two more prolific piped but did not make it out. I am considering contacting the breeder to see if he might have any explanations but trying to figure out how to ask so that he is not defensive; I do have 16 chicks and for that I am happy.
