Seriously quick help with a kitten we found!!!!! UPDATE page 5

As posted above, keep it warm, but let it be able to get off the heat if it becomes too much for it.

This last spring I found a 3 week old kitten on my moms garage floor. It had been there for over 24 hours and was cold/nonresponsive, there was nowhere for it to get off the concrete. As I put it under my shirt, it uttered that final sound that you hear before they die. I kept it there for about an hour and then drove home, with it still under my shirt to put it on a heating pad and hope for the best.

I put it on the heating pad, on low, and checked about an hour later. Not much had changed. I put my finger in a cup of water and dribbled it in the corner of her mouth. After that, it was an escalation toward recovery. I still have her, named Miracle, she is about 7 months old. Important, do not force food or water, dribble it in from the corner of their mouth. They will aspirate it into their lungs if forced.

Also if you know someone with a breathing problem such as asthma that has a nebulizer machine and the albuterol for it, that will help also if it is an URI. Which it probably is, kittens get them frequently when too young to leave mom. Just hold the mouthpiece in front of him/her and let it breathe it in normally. Also just keep washing its eyes with warm water as needed and def. wipe its bottom if you don't see it poop on its own. One more thing, it probably is anemic from fleas. Search for them and either pick them off or go to your store and get a flea or lice comb and keep going through its fur. You shouldn't feed it cows milk as cats really aren't able to digest it properly and it will give it "the runs". Good luck!

Well kitty made it through the night and is full of herself this morning. She is SOOOOOO excited to see anybody when you go in the bathroom to see her. She's been bathed, fed, and all that good stuff this morning. She ate the nipple off the bottle this morning so she definately isn't near as weak as she was yesterday. She still has some eye and nose issues that we can hopefully get some antibiotics for in the morning. She is so poor you can shine a light through her. I'm pretty sure if I can get the eye and respiratory mess cleared up that we can continue to fatten her up. And to add to it all, my 4 year old found her this morning and has named her and LUBS her already LOL!!!

You can put a touch of neosporin in her eyes to help with the eye infection. Just the plain tripple antibiotic ointment, no pain killer, no cream, just the ointment. The 3 ingredients in neosporin are the same 3 ingredients found in most tripple antibiotic ophthalmic ointments. You can do this twice daily for 3 days. You don't want to use it for more than that because it has a higher petroleum content than tripple antibiotic eye ointment and after 3 days may irritate the eyes. But is safe to use. I do rescue and we use it all the time in cats/kittens. She does, however, probably need some oral antibiotics for her upper respiratory infection(URI).

I was wondering about the triple antibiotic ointment in her eyes, I didn't figure it could hurt any. Let me go slather some in them while I'm thinking about it.

A lot of the goopy eyes and nose in starving animals is that normal secretions are so dehydrated that they goop up. Many times it clears by itself with hygiene and food and water.

my sister rescued 2 kittens that where about a week old she wraped each in a sock and put it in her pocket and hand fed them baby meat and wiped their butts to help them with their BM...that is what mama cat does to get the bowels working...they both servived and lived for 14 years
