you know you want some...and they are all soft and squidgey to hold too...unlike chicks they have a chubbiness to them and the cayugas are supersoft...and i you hold them to you they run up your hosulder and snuggle your neck...go on you know you want to....

As for the easter chicks, hmm, that one, Maple is a Ameraucana/Australorp mix and is one of the bigger ones. I have two that are even bigger - Smokey and Ash, they are both Orpingtons. All three I think are roos. My BLRWs are quite a bit smaller and the others are not far off Maple's size. I swear he looks more like an eagle chick or something.
The Cochins are a similar size but way way slower to develop - they are more fluff than feathers still. Weird. They are all flying abit now, and I have suspicions they are partying in my kitchen every night when I go to bed. Several of them I've seen fly 4 feet (from the rim of the brooder at one end to the other). They need to go outside but it snowed here today

yet its supposed to be 75 again by friday. Freaky weather.

Love the broody box Amy. Great set up. How many easter chicks did you have in the end? Wish my brooder was that big. They're outgrowing it. Well not really for sleeping, they all snuggle together in the top quarter anyway. But I'd like to get them out to the nursery run in the daytime if the weather would stabilise.

Sounds like Wisconsin weather
1. if you don't like the weather now wait a minute.

or 2. Wisconsin, the only state you get all 4 seasons in one week.

an EE the only one that really looked like an EE. the other 3 are really light, 2 r grayish and the other one has grayish and brown hence the name butterscotch (his moms name is carmel)

DH has wanted Cayugas forever...they're quieter than other ducks, good layers and very pretty.

Ah yes, this week is a perfect example. I just love our Wisconsin springs. I turned up the heat in the house yesterday because I just couldn't get warm. Yet just a few days ago it was 60 and beautiful outside and the heat barely kicked in.

All I heard last night is that starting Thursday some time its rain, rain, rain. Boy is my husband grumpy. He took off all week to plant.

And on the baby chick note...I have 5 RIRs and one EE out. At least 2 more pipped that I can see.

I'm definitely sold on the hatching in the carton method. These guys pip, zip and they're out. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
