Okay, I candled my eggs. Only one (of 12) showed clear veins - it was a white egg. The others - ??? I think I saw a vein or two in a couple of them, and some dark spots, but I really don't know! The eggs from my own girl, Paprika, are brown and have thick shells - all I could see for sure was the yoke, didn't even see an air cell so maybe those aren't developing. None of them smelled bad, so hopefully they are still viable.
If all I end up with is 2 healthy chicks, I'll be happy - I don't want to end up with just one!
I set 12 guinea eggs Aug 26th evening, so far so good. have two thermometers and one humidity meter this time. Last time, I felt the temps were off and they were, now I have two, I can average. Good luck.....
You can't always see veins this early. I had a batch of Orp that I couldn't see veins on until day 10 or so - I thought they were all duds than I had an excellent hatch!
I set the 27th so I'm a little behind you all but close enough to tag along if that's ok. Set 12 of my own eggs, 10 millie fleur duccle and 2 coronation split sussex. And not to forget...12 bbs silkie eggs from "oldtimegator" and 18 bbs, white, and I think a buff or 2 silkie eggs from "kelar". That's 30 silkies!....whew, its safe to say the silkie bug got to me. The best part is when both lines grow up I can breed them together and not have to worry one bit about inbreeding. Lol I'm already thinking about the beautiful chicks they will hopefully throw and the parents themselves have yet to grow from the yolk and hatch...
