YAY! I candle almost every night.

Ohhh I've been told that's a bad thing to do, especially if you move the embryo in an odd way that a normal momma hen couldn't do. When candeling a lot that's an easy thing to do. I candel day 10 and around day 15, that's it.

I've read the opposite of what you said - that you can candle everyday as long as the incubator is not open for more than 30 minutes. I've had several really successful hatches after candling A LOT. I think the risk comes from dropping eggs, etc. I guess I base it on how my broody hens treat their eggs - they push them around, other hens sit on them and push them, etc etc and they have awesome hatches! Anyways, this is just how I personally do it - and so far so good!

Hmmm interesting. Another thing was that we have natual oils on our hands before an after we wash them and by candeling a lot these oils can rub off into the poors all over the egg thus blocking oxygen flow and hurting the hatch rate. But in the end everyone is going to do what works for them and that's just fine, its just when I read large college university notes about incubation periods they do in state of the art laboritories I tend to listen to them rather that how I feal that day standing in my closet in my room lol.

I have such bad luck hatching anything that I try not to candle very much. This time though I have my eggs fat side up in little cups and turn them from on angle to the other instead of having them flat on the floor of the incubator. I thought I'd try it this way since my husband thought that by picking them up to turn them I was killing them.

I am quite sure my last batch didnt hatch because I had a HUGE temp spike in my old incubator pretty early on. I am confident that these new eggs are fine in the little brinsea I just bought. As long as I can resist touching them too often. ~I do it with plants too... kill them with too much fussing, can't help it!!! So, this time I'm trying to keep my hands off as much as I can. I will admit, hubby has told me to get away from them several times when I couldnt resist the temptation!

I cant wait till they are hatched, then I can fuss over them without worry.

I'm biting my nails at day 10!!! I practically have to slap myself when I walk by them so I don't touch them. I'm awful!
