Set some eggs just now, due date 20th July.... anyone else setting just now? Hatch-Along

today is day 22....you set the 1st....the 2nd is day 1....today is the 24th so it's 22 days....but!! if they ever cooled if you had a heat fluctuation they could be a little behind...make sure they have a good amount of humidity...if you open the end of one of the dark ones you believe is internally pipped and it is you won't hurt it...worst thing is you'll be committed to helping it hatch...but then it'll help you determine the status of the others

^ I agree! If I had to do the assisted hatching all over again, I would have gone MUCH MUCH slower! I would have partially zipped, just enough to get to the inner membrane and make a small cut just enough to allow more of the beak. I would still put bacitracin on the inner membrane to keep it moist. If you feel you have to help all the others pip, then I would bump up the humidity up to 75 and get going. I had mWhen I helped it, I had my humidity up no less than 75 to in the low 80's.

The chicks move if they are alive correct? It has to be obvious. I pipped the 4 dark ones and one is full of slime but the other 3 look fine accept no signs of life. I put them back in the incubator until someone answers me lol. But from 11pm the 1st to 11pm the second makes one day right? So then 11 pm the 21st to 11pm the 22nd makes 21 days. That'll make 11pm today a full 23 days right? I hope I'm wrong, but my math makes sense?

if you see no sign of life open it more until you can tell! it isn't unusual for you to lose some just as it's time to hatch! are these shipped eggs?
count the second as day 1 lol! do you have any chirping or pips?

From what I can tell, I opened a small hole but just large enough to shine my light in, they look shrinkwrapped in the inner membrane. I floated them to find the air cell so I knew where to begin and I opened them at the most likely pip spot and got lucky. One did pip through, 2 didn't, and like I said the 4th oozed yucky stuff everywhere.

if they aren't ready to hatch they can move so little that it's hard to tell especially if you don't have a good view because of a cool light or a thick dark shell...until they start working on pipping then it gets obvious the eggs rock and roll

Of the 10 7 are shipped and the other 3 are mine. The one that did hatch os from my flock too. The one shipped one was fine when I candled them before lockdown but I found the air cell along the long side of the egg? It makes so much sense now that you told me how to count right lol. I feel very sheepish..... but all the eggs were alive and moving at lockdown. This happened to me last time too.

Ok. I'll leave them in there and watch. I opened the shipped one the most because the air cell was in a weird place. Its little beak was kinda open and its eye was open too. Probably not a good sign.

The other 6 have not pipped internally yet but since its 22 days I feel better. My temp is right at 100 and the humidity is 70%. I'm encouraged by you saying that no moving isn't always a bad sign.
